Let Me Explain...
After watching the film, which was senseless, I decided to read the comic out of curiosity to check the source material. I was also intrigued by the many negative reviews I read here. How bad could this thing be, was my question. The vast majority of the surface story was about Super Villains, but that's not what I'm here to talk about. I'm here to make it clear what the story is really ...

Perfect English Magic
If books are like the food we must have, then Diana Wynne Jones' House of Many Ways is a bit a like a cream bun and a bit like the meaty pasties from the bake shop of Charmaine Baker's dad. How tasty! How quickly they go down! Perhaps, like Mr. Baker's, they are written with some kind of helpful enchantment because we always seem to come away happy but yearning again soon for another dose of ...

Great Resource!
I found this book to have some great ideas for group activities that introduce and teach social/emotional skills. As a social worker in a junior high school, I have implemented many of these activites into my daily activities. Highly recommended for teachers, counselors, social workers, etc.

Please actually read Marx...
...and PLEASE read beyond the Manifesto! Ignore the anti-Marx ideologues who do not actually read him, and give him a shot. Forget, for a minute, all preconceived notions of communism, and take his writings as though they are fresh and brand new. Only then should you proceed on to reading criticism of him, history of Marxism, etc. The reader who is willing to undertake an actual study of Marx ...

Huge Help!
This book has been wonderful! I am thrilled to be able to use it on my journey through nursing school. This book is a pathophysiology life saver as well. The care plans listed here and the information that is in this little book make life much easier! If you are in the medical field, you should own this book. If you are someone that is interested in just learning more, you might want to try ...

Worth it just for the Liu and Vaughn stoies
I have always found anthologies like this to be a great way for me to find new favorite authors. This one has a few standard favorites, and a few new names. Instead of a flat monotone of "erotic" stories each more bland than the last, this anthology has stories that span a delightful range from the electric to the absurd. but the outstanding stars in this one are relative newcomers Carrie Vaughn ...

Mr. Pip- a wonderful, enthralling novel
Mr. Pip is set on an island. It is a narrative of events that happened there told through the eyes of a young girl. It is a wonderful read that has sent me back to re-read Great Expectations. Loved this book!! My son discovered the book by reading the first three chapters in a small give away glossy magazine called "Bit of Lit". What a great way to sample new work!

BEST COOKBOOK EVER - could only be better if it was twice as long!
I'm not pregnant, and neither is anyone in my family, but this is simply the BEST cookbook I've ever purchased. My husband and I are living with my fifty year old parents and my teenage sisters, and I am the only one in the family who likes to eat healthy. I've been cooking healthy recipes from other cookbooks, only to get grumpy looks and half-eaten portions from my family members. Along ...

Purchased two journals for two adult thirtysomething children, who are crazy for anything about the Indiana jones adventures. Both children love the photos and drawings. To make the journal look old I wrapped the journals in tea dyed chamois! They were a Hit!

Unconventional, smart advice
In the crowded space of personal investment books, this one distinguishes itself with some unconventional and intriguing advice. Here are some highlights I found eye-opening: - Rebalancing is a bad idea! Rebalancing back to your 'target allocations' is effectively making a contrarian 'bet' that some assets have become overvalued and others undervalued. Such a bet against the market doesn't ...

Satisfied yet puzzled...
I just bought this book today, having looked at most of the pages at the bookstore. I love his suggestion about the basic color palette needed to create depths and midtones and highlights for the eye area - given on page 63. There are 13 shades all in the ranges of beige-brown-pink-orange group so it is all about playing with gradual tones working with your skin; no blues, purples, greens etc. ...

Vol 2 is still early in the series and Gaiman is still feeling out the character and what all is possible in this series. It's really good, but I don't think it's quite at its zenith yet, to deserve the reputation it has, but I'm looking forward to the next volume to see how Gaiman and the Sandman grow.

A must for all Seminary students and communicators
My observation regarding preaching is that there are two things necessary to be an unusually effective communicator of God's Word: 1. Extraordinary insight into the Scriptures 2. The ability to communicate that insight in an engaging, memorable way. In this incredible book, Andy Stanley shares his secret to making number 2 happen on a weekly basis. Expository purists who feel the need to ...

As a veteran teacher, I know that today's classroom can be full of stress. Fred Jones gives every teacher, both new and experienced, the tools for reducing stress while doing the job of equipping young people. UNIQUE to most books for educators, it is equally as effective for teachers K-12. As a "gift" to myself and my students, I reread Tools for Teaching each year in August. I didn't ...

Very readable look at "Lean Thinking"
Lean is a specific management technique to make an organization more efficient (and a private sector company more profitable). This book is a well written introduction to the subject. The authors, James Womack and Daniel Jones, provide lots of examples to illustrate their basic points. Thus, this is a very useful introduction to the subject, for those of us who are not experts on this matter. ...

Comprising Sandman numbers 1 to 20, the Absolute Sandman, Vol. 1 is the first of four oversized, slip-cased hardcover books that will reprint Neil Gaiman's Sandman completely (all 75 numbers, plus some extras). That alone would be highly recommended, but this book has also a new coloring, aproved my Neil himself, plus a new introduction by Paul Levitz, forewords by Gaiman, a copy of the script ...
