I could not put the book down.
This was a wonderful book that guided me back to get in touch with God and the importance of his presence in our lives. The author made Jesus real to me. It did not covert me nor reafirm my religious affiliation but it certainly renewed my faith in the goodness in all of us. It did this without preaching, without adding guilt. It just left me with a belief that I, along with each person on ...

simply wonderfull
Joseph Girzone has written one of the most simple yet thought provoking books on the nature of God i've ever read. It seems like a childrens' book at first in its simplicity, but it works on two levels - in simple words and in a deep, sort of pantheistic way of thinking that reveres the natural and emotional world as isepperable from the nature of God.

Tops in reading for any age reader.
The Joshua books are a vivid reminder of how God intends that we live, but they aren't preachy or patronizing. They portray Joshua as an example for all of us. Joshua, the first book, sets a standard hard to beat in the others but they come close. Plots are exciting, heart-warming, yet uncomplicated. I found myself highlighting passages because they spoke with such profundity and ...

Joshua and the Shepherd
In short, I have read "Joshua" and now "Joshua & the Shepherd", and I was more inspired by "The Shepherd" than even "Joshua". It reinforced my own vision of what the Catholic Church can REALLY be like, and SHOULD be like, if only some things would change in the Church today. It has a wonderful ecumenical tone through it too. It was very hard to put down!

Girzone is an exceptional Christian
Joseph Girzone is a retired Catholic priest. He retired when his physician informed him his health would fail if he remained serving in that profession. That was over 20 years ago. Early in his retirement he decided to adopt a life-style of total dependence on God, and learned much from this self-imposed poverty. Then, he began to communicate his ideas about the nature of religion using the ...

compelling stories set in modern age time.
I could not put any of these books down until I finished it. It grabs you right in the beginning and you become a part of the story inself, you don't want it to end. By the end of the book I wished that Joshua would come into my life,(but in a way he already had, through the reading of these books) These books are excellent for all ages, I've given many away as gifts myself.

A Beautiful Story
Many will suggest that Joseph Girzone is a bit too simplistic in his writing. That is probably his one flaw. In "Joshua and the Children", we find Joshua modeling Jesus's commandment that we all should model the innocence of a child. While the plot is predictable, this does not make it less heat-warming. The main character of the book Joshua, is a modern incarnation of Jesus. In this ...

A BEAUTIFUL ALLEGORY
This is truly a lovely allegory. Kara, the central character in this story is a large, powerful falcon. He is a predator by nature, devouring smaller creatures. During one attack, he swoops down on a dove. The dove begs for her life and when Kara looks into her eyes and sees her fear, he relents and releases her. From then on, Kara changes his priorities. He learns to eat berries and ...

Girzone is an appealingly honest spiritual person
My wife and I had discovered Girzone's books during a period of questioning, finding considerable refreshment in his candid and insightful way to look at service to God. Then, we heard he was going to speak at a local retreat. Sometimes I an somewhat apprehensive in learning more about someone, as they might not turn out to be the genuine article they seem to be. But, I was not disappointed: ...

The Gospels Come Alive!
Having read all of Fr. Girzone's other books, I thirst for each of his new offerings. This book did not disappoint me. His ability to inject warmth and a personal perspective transform the Gospels from a more historical context to making the reader feel as though they were part of a beautiful story. Anyone who has felt a bit arm's length when reading Scripture will find that they are ...

What If?
The most courageous question that we can ask ourselves in any situation is "what if..." A question that attempts to answer the impossible or improbable. Most people avoid asking these kinds of questions for valid reasons. It is almost like opening a can of worms we are not ready to deal with. However, at certain points asking the `what if' question clarifies events and brings hope into our ...

Beautiful and witty
This is a beautiful and witty tale about a depraved man. His ugly soul is mirrored by his ever-changing portrait while he retains his youthful visage. Suspenseful throughout. A classic.

Joseph F Girzone's books
Reading these books, and I have them all. They are just so well written, that you are in the book as you read. To me, they were like taking a nerve pill, so very relaxing. I have learnt alot about the words of our Father & what He expects of us. Mr. Girzone's first book, Joshua In The City, was wrote without anyone but his friends backing him. It became a BEST SELLER on it's own merits. This is ...

Joey is a warm heart felt story that everyone should read.
I read Joey a year ago and I will never forget it. I will read it again and again and give it to anyone who hasn't read it. It touches home, and I have never cried so hard as I did when I finished this book. Fr. Joe Girzone is the greatest author, and if you have never read any of his books, I suggest you start.

Joshua in the Inner City
While the plot of "Joshua" books by this stage of the series is somewhat predictable, the concept can not fade. Taking on the problems of the inner city, Joshua takes a road that politicians often forget. The poor have pride and want an opportunity to work when it is provided. Society as a whole benefits when more people are working. In "Joshua in the City", we see the main character in a ...

Joshua in a Troubled World: A Story for Our Time
I found this latest book in the Joshua series by Joseph Girzone to be a fascinating interpretation of how Jesus would react to the post 9/11 climate of fear and distrust were he alive today. I tried to anticipate how the book would unfold, and found that Girzone addressed all the potential problems and possibilities in a very realistic way. I'd highly recommend this book, even if readers have ...
