Heart of Darkness (Hesperus Classics)41 reviews
Joseph Conrad

Hesperus Press, 2002

A fictional account of the novelist's experience in Africa
The story is that of a group of men aboard the Nellie, among them the anonymous narrator, who are told Marlow's experience in the Congo in the 1890s. Marlow's career, like Conrad's, spans an important period in the history of relations between Europe and Africa. The author's purpose is to show that the "civilising" mission actually reveals the "darkness" at its own heart instead of bringing light ...

FISHES ALABAMA5 reviews
Herbert T., Boschung, Richard L. Mayden, ...

Smithsonian, 2004

Amazing illusrations, packed with information
This is an excellent reference book. Joe Tomelleri is a remarkable artist with a talent I have never seen before. His illustrations are so close to looking at the fish in a stream. He is a master at capturing life. The information in this book is very complete and concise. A great buy for the money and just a beautiful book to look at even if you are not extremely interested in fish.

By the Sea, By the Sea, By the Beautiful Sea.1 review
Joseph Pintauro, Lanford Wilson, ...

Dramatist's Play Service, 1998

An interesting play
An interesting play. Three acts, one by each author. All take place in one day, on the same beach. Same three actors in each scene, but different characters. The first scene is dramatic, but slightly confusing. The second is light and humorous. The third, by Terrence McNally, is quite good - very poigniant. In all, a good play - I'd be interested to see it performed.

Academy Chicago Publishers, 2006

Oh, Give Me A Break, Evans
If you're only complaint about Conyers' book is that he has taken the text of House Resolution 635 down from his website, do a search on Library of Congress THOMAS for it - it's there. Geeezzzz... what a non-sequitur.

The Politics of Truth: A Diplomat's Memoir: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA ...96 reviews
Joseph Wilson, 2005

Fascinating & Frightening
Joseph Wilson has had a fascinating life and having worked as a diplomat in different African nations and Iraq in the run up to the first Gulf war, he is not naive, nor is he anti-war. This is why it is all the more powerful to hear his side of how the White House has worked to discredit him, because he pointed out that claims they were making about Saddam trying to buy uranium for nuclear ...

Michael L. Weinstein, Davin Seay

St. Martin's Griffin, 2008

Beware of religious fascists
More than two years ago the author of this book started the Military Religious Freedom Foundation as a watchdog to make the military obey the laws of separation of Church and State. His concern started with a specific evil at his alma mater, the Air Force Academy, the chronic harassment and intimidation by evangelicals to pressure Catholics, liberal Christians, Jews, and others to assent to a ...

Communications Licensing and Certification Examinations: The Complete TAB Reference1 review
Sam Wilson, Joseph A. Risse

McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics, 1994

Counted over 40 errors in this book
I have never run across a technical book with more serious errors than this one. Its unreal that this book was, apparently, not proof read at all before publication; because you cannot trust *any* information in "Communications Licensing and Certification Examinations: The Complete TAB Reference" due to the *huge* number of major errors. At the minimum an errata should be sent with each book, ...

Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine: Companion Handbook43 reviews

Mcgraw-Hill (Tx), 1998

For the lay person---NOT!!!
There is a reason why med students learn anatomy, histology, embryology, physiology, and biochemistry before picking up Harrison's, so I snicker when non-MD's think they can read and understand ( with the help of Taber's medical dictionary, which by the way is used by nurses, physicians in training use Dorland's) a medical textbook, especially one like Harrison's.( What is especially humorous is ...
