We LOVE this book!!
This is a great book to read to antsy kids. My child not only istened, but got very involved with the characters, soon WE were a hippopota-family! Who can resist saying, "Hippopotamama"? The text flows beautifully and the illustrations are playful and just perfect for this tale! If you loved the Happy Hippopotomi, then I wholeheartedly recommend, "The Maestro Plays" also by Bill Martin, Jr.

I found this book at a library over 20 years ago, ordered it after renewing it a "zillion" times for my 4 children. My 4+ granchildren are now memorizing many of the stories and poems, so i am ordering one for each of my children's families. Even I enjoy them over and over again and with Eric Carle illustrations and Bill Martin contributions, it's a classic with us!

I bought this book together with "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" a couple of days ago, and my 3y.o. kid loves them both. My son helps me read out loud and is learning complicated words like "boa constrictor".
