Rotary Riot: 40 Fast and Fabulous Quilts1 review
Judy Hopkins, Nancy J. Martin

Martingale & Co Inc, 1992

It's my favorite book of quilt patterns.
Time and again when I flip through all my quilting books to find the next quilt to make, I wind up in this book. The patterns are easy to follow, interesting but not too difficult, and lend themselves to many different color schemes and sizes. The book also has all the basic "here's how you do this" information you need to make one or many wonderful quilts. If I ever wear out a quilt book, ...

Scrap Quilts3 reviews
Judy Martin

Leman Publications Inc, 1985

My favorite scrap quilts book
I love scrap quilts and this is my favorite book about them. In fact my copy is very well read and I love to look at the color photos. Judy Martin covers a wide variety of patterns (traditional to contemporary) and color schemes. There are quilts with just two colors as well as some that use every color on the color wheel. Some quilts are shown in different combinations or sizes. There is an ...

Encyclopedia of Colored Pencil Techniques: A Comprehensive Step-by-step Directory of Key Techniques, with an ...9 reviews
Judy Martin

Running Press, 1997

Expand your pencils
I have been using Prismacolor pencils for many years and over that time, developed my own techniques, but I found the ideas and examples in this book to be great. I have been dabbling in the techniques I learned in this book and combined some of them with my own. Drawing some things had always been a struggle for me to get "just right," but after seeing some of the detailed examples, I now do ...

With one brief phone call, Judy Martin-Urban's life changed forever. Her deeply personal portrayal of the complexity of mourning her grandson while remaining hopeful of her daughter's survival and recovery will touch everyone who reads it. Sketching School (Learn as You Go)4 reviews
Judy Martin

Readers Digest, 1992

Best way to start exploring sketching
This is not exactly a how-to book in terms of showing you step-by-step how to make marks on paper. It is about what people sketch, how and why. When I began sketching I lacked confidence simply because I wasn't sure about the correct method, amount of detail materials, etc. This book showed me the wide variety of sketching styles and that sketching is such a personal activity done for so many ...

Knockout Blocks and Sampler Quilts6 reviews
Judy Martin

Crosley-Griffith Publishing Co., 2004

A Wealth of Quilting Projects and Ideas
This book does just what the author intended. It shows you a large variety of blocks and layouts, and inspires you to try your own layouts and color schemes, although you can certainly make the quilts just as Judy Martin shows them. Even my husband got into the act, saying he liked this or that layout, or suggesting a different color scheme. I really like star blocks to begin with, so I ...

Cookies 'n' Quilts: Recipes & Patterns for America's Ultimate Comforts6 reviews
Judy Martin

Crosley-Griffith Pub Co Inc, 2001

Love it!
I am a beginning quilter, and this book has projects that I can do easily, plus others that will challenge my abilities, but also teach me new skills (such as set-in seams). I also appreciate how Judy Martin gives yardage in length and in fat quarters. I am ordering a muffin top pan soon so that I can make many of the cookie recipes (lots of butter in these recipes, but yummy!)

The Block Book2 reviews
Judy Martin

Crosley-Griffith Pub Co Inc, 1998

Great Reference Book
This a great book for those who prefer not to make their quilts by a prescribed pattern. Blocks are arranged according to size and difficulty. There are even a few large, intricate designs that would work beautifully as a medallion for the center of a quilt. There are lots of traditional patterns along with many that were designed by the author. A nice addition to any quilter's bookshelf.

Judy Martin

Search Press, 2009

Tremendous shame this book has gone out of print
As a professional artist working with pastel, I find this book to be an ongoing source of inspiration and reminders of alternative ways of 'doing' pastels. When I get stuck in a rut, or feel 'stale', browsing this book is one of my favorite ways to get rolling again. With the growing popularity of pastels as an artistic medium, this book truly should be re-issued. I looked for it for several ...
