A must read
This is an awesome book for anyone who wants to really understand the disease of alcoholism. As a recovering alcoholic it helped me through a difficult time. POWERFUL AND INSPIRING !!!
I had the opportunity to hear William Moyers speak at SECAD. His presentation moved me to purchase his book, BROKEN. This book was so powerful that I was unable to put it down once I read the prologue. As a recovering person and therapist in the mental health/drug and alcohol treatment field I immediately purchased a dozen more copies of BROKEN to give to clients and family members who struggle ...

Under the Influence: A Guide to the Myths and Realities of Alcoholism32 reviews
James Robert Milam, Katherine Ketcham

Bantam, 1984

Why this book is SO very important for families of alcoholics
I train counselors and counsel families of alcoholics, and when a family member is having a very difficult time (even though she is trying hard) to understand that this is a disease----I refer her to this book. This helps her to see so well, that his rage is because alcohol excites the rage-centers of the brain. And because she now understands this, she knows, then, that the crazymaking coming ...

Teens Under the Influence: The Truth About Kids, Alcohol, and Other Drugs- How to Recognize the Problem and ...3 reviews
Katherine Ketcham

Ballantine Books, 2003

This book is a must for anyone working with teens
I work with teens with drug/alcohol problems and this book is an absolute must. It is an excellent book in that it dispels the myths about teen addiction that are very prevalent in our society. These myths prevent us from dealing with our children, students, and patients in the most effective way. In addition to factual and up-to-date information about addiction's causes and treatment, it ...

The Myth of Repressed Memory: False Memories and Allegations of Sexual Abuse17 reviews
Elizabeth Loftus, Katherine Ketcham

St. Martin's Griffin, 1996

Looking Through A Mirror
When I read this book, the chapter about Lynn, I began to shake and then to cry. The author described my experience with a therapist from 1994 to 1999. For the past couple of years, I have been trying to put my life together and explain to myself what happened so I could try to explain it to my family. These kind and brave women gave me the words. These ladies are not shaming or cruel to sexual ...

Witness for the Defense: The Accused, the Eyewitness and the Expert Who Puts Memory on Trial6 reviews
Elizabeth Loftus, Katherine Ketcham

St. Martin's Griffin, 1992

There Is No Photo Album In The Brain
Many people think that we store our past visual experiences as intact images in the brain. Research, however, shows that this concept is not accurate. The visual recollection of an event has to be recreated by assembling bits and pieces of memory into a whole picture. Our recollection of events is thus often distorted. A variety of psychological experiments have been conducted that demonstrate ...
