Puberty Blues4 reviews

Timeless Aussie Humour
"Puberty Blues" can be read in a few hours. It's a short novel, written in simple, yet clever teenage prose. The Aussie vernacular used in this book is hilarious, and Sydney-siders will definitely relate to its setting (Cronulla). Two 13 year old girls, Deb and Sue, seek to get out of "Dickheadland" and into the Greenhill gang who are surfie and respected. Puberty Blues marks the journey of 2 ...

The Constant Sinner (Modern Classics, 400)1 review
Mae West

Virago Press, 1995

A brilliant, sexy, and fascinating novel!!
The Constant Sinner is a dramatic novel about a young beautiful woman, Babe Gordon, and her intriguing storm through New York's underworld and society set. From the wanton streets of Harlem, to the prizefighting arena, to the lascivious speakeasies and night resorts, Babe's intense passion for men and wealth lead her on an unscrupulous and uninhibited journey. Set in the pre-libertarian 1930's ...

Foetal Attraction10 reviews
Kathy Lette

Picador, 1999

Great in every way
Witty, truthful, troublesome, entertaining - this book deserved its success. I love how we find out about the main character gradually, as her experiences unfold, so that it continually makes one question who this person really is. Kathy Lette is a tremendously talented writer with so much to say, and so hilariously, it's hard to believe one person came up with it all. I relived some of the best ...

Altar Ego: A Novel16 reviews
Kathy Lette

Harper Perennial, 2000

LOL
Lette is a great comic author from Australia. Her writing style is deliberately "hiccupy" in order to illustrate her main characters bumbling lifestyle. Few books have made me laugh out loud like this one. Though I'm sure many may misunderstand her illustration of a may-december interracial relationship, yet as an African American woman myself, I found it hilarious.

The Llama Parlour2 reviews
Kathy Lette

Picador, 1995

No words neeeded, ever felt like an alien ?
Well, while reading this book I was in England, with an english boyfriend who just broke up and I was thinking of staying or going back to Sweden. Sharing the same sort of "what the F**k am I going to do now", I read this and later on Foetal attractions. I really felt like an alien being in such a different culture where everyone just seemed to be interested in taking as much drugs as possible ...

How to Kill Your Husband (and Other Handy Household Hints)4 reviews

How to kill your husband
This book is a hoot, especially if you have a dry warped sense of humour as I do-a must read.

Puppetry of the Penis: The Ancient Australian Art of Genital Origami5 reviews
Simon Morley, David Friend

Transworld Publishers, 2000

Oh my goodness I'll never leave the house again
Well what can I say about this fabulous book. Before I read this book my life was dull, imcomplete but through this book I discovered that my penis was not an inanimate peice of flesh just hanging there in between my legs but a instument of pleaseure that I can share with many people through the magic of puppetry! It is no longer the dull slip of skin that was but an all singing ,all dancing ...

Dead Sexy: A Novel3 reviews
Kathy Lette

Washington Square Press, 2005

A little mind candy for a day at the beach
This book kept me laughing about til about half way through and then even though it was sort of a cliche' about men and women..I had to see how it ended. Happily of course as all romance type novels should. There were a few erotic moments just to keep you hooked. I'd say all in all it's a great book for a day in the sun. Not Shakespeare but entertaining nonetheless.

A Stitch in Time: A Novel4 reviews
Kathy Lette

Washington Square Press, 2005

HILARIOUS (AND HONEST!)
What a find. Just a pulpy pick-up off a random book store, and I find myself devouring the novel from cover to cover. It recreates with fascinating honesty a world where bodily contours are critical; a world with an alternative reflection on the complexities of age, image and marriage in the twenty first century. Gruelling exercising regimes, plastic surgeons, ribald but rip-roaring one liners -- ...
