Super Stocks8 reviews
Kenneth L. Fisher

McGraw-Hill, 2007

A good book that teaches true, disciplined value investing
If you've read a few of Fisher's regular columns in Forbes, you know that he 1) is primarily a value-oriented investor, 2) applies numerous, diverse tools in formulating his opinions, and 3) is quite self-confident. I think most people would objectively agree that a combination of all three of these qualities is key to being a successful long-term investor. Super Stocks, which I read a decade ...

Paths to Wealth Through Common Stocks (Wiley Investment Classics)4 reviews
Philip A. Fisher

Wiley, 2007

It's many great parts more than make up for its age
With due respect to my fellow reviewers, this book contains some of the best passages describing inflation, the real effects of Federal Reserve rate cuts and hikes (as surprising today as it was then---Fisher asserts that a loose monetary policy encourages deflation), technology as a major brake on inflation, as well as something that has received very little attention in my reading experience: ...

The Only Three Questions That Count: Investing by Knowing What Others Don't117 reviews
Kenneth L. Fisher

Wiley, 2008

Get a healthy new perspective on the markets
Fisher's book explodes a number of market myths that are taken as conventional wisdom by most investors, very much to their disadvantage. Fisher not only puts matters in perspective, he teaches you how to think about markets, how to identify opportunities, when to take risks, when to play safe, when to get in, when to get out, etc. I like the way he writes, stating general principles and backing ...

The Wall Street Waltz: 90 Visual Perspectives, Illustrated Lessons From Financial Cycles and Trends (The ...5 reviews
Kenneth L. Fisher

Wiley, 2007

Good fun
I got this because I enjoyed Fisher's other recent book, The Only Three Questions That Count. If you enjoy market history, this book is for you. This is an update on a 1987 book, but Fisher updated most of his comments, and added a few charts. Don't get the 1987 book--get this one. It has some investing wisdom that makes more sense for today.

In Defiance of Death: Exposing the Real Costs of End-of-Life Care
Kenneth A. Fisher, Lindsay E. Rockwell, ...

Praeger Publishers, 2008

Death is a natural part of life. But it has become a painful, protracted, humiliating process that is often inappropriate for the healthcare patient, puts an undue financial and emotional burden on the family, and provides a model of improper care for physicians in training. And it's expensive--about 22 percent of all medical expenditures are for people in the last year of their lives. Further, while studies show that 90 percent of all people ...

Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits and Other Writings (Wiley Investment Classics)51 reviews
Philip A. Fisher

Wiley, 2003

The Bible of Growth Investing
This book is a timeless classic on growth investment principles and research. Some reviewers have implied that Fisher's painstaking research is not practical and doesn't apply today. Beware, because if you are like Philip Fisher and you don't like diversification, the lack of research can be deadly to your investments! As he plainly states in the book, if you are not going to do the research, you ...

The Warren Buffett Way, Second Edition82 reviews
Robert G. Hagstrom

Wiley, 2005

Great Investor, Great Book!
Warren Buffet, the world's richest man, without a doubt, is the greatest investor today. Buffet's the only investor using fundamental analysis who can beat market indices. Unlike the vast majority of money and mutual fund managers who charge high management fees and consistently lag their respective market indices, Buffet has beaten the market for decades. The one lesson this wise investor ...

100 Minds That Made the Market (The Fisher Investment Series)2 reviews
Kenneth L. Fisher

Wiley, 2007

Interesting read for those interested in financial history
100 great biographies of the most influential personalities that affect the markets even today. If you're interested in how our markets developed from it's chaotic beginning this is a great book. I particularly enjoyed the section on crooks and scams. It's amazing some of the things people will do.

The Wall Street Waltz: 90 Visual Perspectives : Illustrated Lessons from Financial Cycles and Trends4 reviews
Kenneth L. Fisher

Pacific Publishing Group (Woodside, CA), 1987

I highly recommend this for anyone interested in markets.
I first read Ken Fisher's book in 1987, unfortunately for me, after the stock market crash. Had I read it before the crash of 1987 I think I would have sold out. His book clearly gave the warning signals about the high valuations of stocks in that era. I love this book for its simplicity and powerful demonstrations of market history that I have recommended it to many people who want to ...
