An Invitation to Chess (Fireside Chess Library)5 reviews
Irving Chernev, Kenneth Harkness

Everyman Chess, 1995

Excellent for Beginning Players
I used "An Invitation to Chess" when I taught a grade school course in chess fundamentals. Of all the chess books I have seen geared purely toward the beginner, I found this to be the clearest, best organized, and, just as the subtitle claims, it is "A Picture Guide to The Royal Game." Lots of pictures help explain the moves and motions of a piece in the context of a larger strategy. Chernev and ...

The American Sidereal Ephemeris 2001-20251 review

Concise planetary information on a valid zodiac.
Cyril Fagan and Donald A. Bradley (Garth Allen) developed the sidereal zodiac during the 1950's. The difference between tropical and sidereal zodiacs is 24 degrees and increasing. Sidereal positions are not subject to precession and will not have to be corrected from millenium to millenium.

How We Lived: A Documentary History of Immigrant Jews in America, 1880-19301 review

Putnam Pub Group (T), 1983

If you're an East Coast Jew you should read this.
I never really understood the environment that my eastern European immigrant relatives lived in in the early 20th. century. This book, composed mainly of first person accounts and period photographs, has opened up their world to me. Focused mainly in the Northeast, it is a great historical document. I give it 4 stars because it could have better layout and organization.

The Psychology of Astro*Carto*Graphy (Contemporary Astrology)1 review
Jim Lewis, Kenneth Irving

Penguin (Non-Classics), 1997

The best A*C*G book so far!
Everyone who's traveled from one place to another has probably noticed how one city might have a different "feel" to it than another, and if fairly alert, it might even seem clear that clusters of experiences tend to occur in the same place. This book will tell you why. Well-written with the clarity one might expect from Jim Lewis and Kenneth Irving, novice and experienced astrologers alike ...

We Lived There Too: In Their Own Words and Pictures Pioneer Jews and the Westward Movement of America ...2 reviews
Kenneth Libo, Irving Howe

St. Martin's Press, 1985

Westward Oy: Pioneer Jews in the American West
We Lived There Too brings to life a little known aspect of Jewish American history in a lively and informative way. It is a pleasure to read. The pictures are remarkable and the first person accounts unforgetable. This book is a must buy.
