Lilly's Big Day 13 reviews
Greenwillow, 2006
Slinger Shotguns Shotwell An instant classic!
Henke does it again, great book. Henke creates very real characters who grapple with emotions about as intense as I've seen for this format. In Lilly's perfect day, her teacher, Mr. Slinger, in an act of naked nepotism, elevates his own niece to the role of flower girl. This despite the inordinate amount of energy Lilly has put towards practicing for the event, the ...

Box of Treats: Five Little Picture Books about Lilly and Her Friends 9 reviews
Tandem Library, 2004
Five Sweet Treats...and what that means As mentioned in other reviews; this set of books is nicely smallish (5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches), and beautifully drawn, and the 5 stories are lovely. What no one has yet bothered to mention is the answer to "What do you get?" in this smallish, prettily drawn and nicely written set?
You get 5 small, hard cover books in a nice, slick board box;
Lilly's Chocolate Heart, Owen's Marshmellow Chick, ...

Bailey goes camping 4 reviews Kevin Henkes
Scholastic, 1999
Powerful Leporidae Positive Parenting Bruce and Betty, the older siblings of a young rabbit named Bailey, are off to camp, but Bailey, a couple years too young, has to stay at home with Mama and Papa Rabbit. In either a malicious sibling taunting, or more likely just a case of youthful empathic failure, Bruce tells Bailey not to feel bad: "It's not that great. All we do is eat hot dogs and live in a tent and go swimming and fishing ...

Owen's Marshmallow Chick (Owen) 10 reviews
HarperFestival, 2002
A sugary sweet tale This story is a perfect read for Easter or any time of the year! While my child loves to bite the head off of his marshmallow chicks, he could understand Owen's attachment to the treat. Owen projects his emotional attachment of his favorite blanket onto the marshmallow chick (that is the same color as his blanket)and doesn't gobble it up like his other holiday treats. This ending is absolutely ...

A sweet and thoughtful story "Owen" is a sweet and thoughtful story on par with all of Kevin Henkes other children's books. Whether you're a teacher looking for a story that students can relate to, a parent searching for a meaninful read for your child, or if you are just in the mood for a story filled with sentiment, you can't go wrong with "Owen."

Hodder Children's Books, 1998
Lilly's brand new purse This story is about a girl who got a brand new purse. She really wants to show it to her classmates, but her teacher Mr. Slinger wants her to wait at an appropriate time.
I love this book because Lilly is very precious and for giving. I think this book is good for k-2nd grade. So they can have reading.
I think this is a wonderful story. Lilly loves her purse. Plus she's very anxious to show it ...

Lily y Su Bolso de Plastico Morado 1 review Kevin Henkes, Teresa Mlawer
Everest Publishing, 1998
Wow Lilly Lilly is a great little mouse who loves school, her teacher and as it turns out- sharing. But she has trouble waiting. This is a great book about when kids get angry and the consequences. The pictures are great too! Although I have not read the Spanish version, we are going to have our daughter's teacher read this into a tape recorder so she can hear it from a native speaker.

Shhhh 1 review
Greenwillow, 1989
Can't SHHHH.. This book is good for pre-readers. The story is simple and very relatable to very young children. My 2 1/2 year old identifies with the little girl going through the house while everyone is asleep. Kevin Henkes is a genius. I love all his books.

Lilly's Sticker & Storybook Fun 2 reviews Kevin Henkes
HarperFestival, 2000
This is a fun and educational book. As a kindergarten teacher I am always looking for ways to extend the lessons I teach in my classroom, this book does just that. Because sticker characters from many of our favorite Kevin Henkes' books are included, it gives kids an opportunity to "act out" the themes of self-value, bravery, and other great lessons demonstrated in those books. Since the stickers are reusable they provide ...

This book provides an excellent social studies lesson for children, but kids will enjoy the book for its cute story and fun illustrations.

The Lilly Book & Toy Box 3 reviews Kevin Henkes
HarperFestival, 1998
Lily appeals to the child in all of us! As a second grade teacher, I find that every year Lilly is one of my class's favorite characters. She is bold, funny, and irresistably lovable. I especially love the part where she simply must show off her sparkly purple movie star sunglasses despite the warning from her teacher. Children can really relate to her. Kevin Henkes has truly created a character that will stand the test of time with ...
