Quarter-Mile Muscle: Detroit Goes to the Drags2 reviews
Larry Davis

Car Tech, 2005

Must-have book for fans of 60-70s stock class drag racing
Larry Davis has another great book out as a follow up to Super Stock - Drag Racing the Family Sedan. This one mainly covers the factory built stockers and cars that made places like Woodward Avenue famous. Good clean photos (wish they could have been bigger though) of a lot of stockers. The focus is on the Midwest/Ohio are where Davis grew up. Great book, highly recommended!

P-51D Mustang - Walk Around No. 71 review
Larry Davis

Squadron/Signal Publications, 1996

Photo-Guide to the Classic P-51D!
With this 'Walk Around,' #7 in the series, Larry Davis serves up an 80-page photo tribute to the legendary P-51D Mustang. As with other series titles, the emphasis is on numerous 'up-close-and-personal' shots of the aicraft in question along with nicely-done Don Greer artwork. Typical W/A format: color pages alternate with black & white photos. Almost all of the black & white photographs in #7 ...

Gasser Wars: Drag Racing's Street Classes: 1955-19682 reviews
Larry Davis

Car Tech, 2007

Another winner from Larry Davis
It's a detailed, generously illustrated history of this period and these cars. Nice blend of technical information, anecdotes, and event results.

Gunships: A Pictorial History of Spooky - Vietnam Studies Group series (6032)1 review
Larry Davis

Squadron/Signal Publications, 1982

Pretty good
I checked this book out of the library, but a few pages were ripped out, so technically my review is not a complete review. Nevertheless, the book was a good intro into the history of gunships. It briefly steps you through the AC-47, AC-130, AC-119 (which did actually come out later than the AC-130, despite the fact that the C-119 was a much older airframe than the C-130), and a few more small ...

Planes, Names & Dames, Vol. III: 1955-1975 - Aircraft Nose Art series (6068)1 review
Larry Davis

Squadron/Signal Publications, 1995

Great Photo Collection But Could've Been Better Organized
Being a warbird enthusiast, this was one of many Squadron/Signal books I wanted to have in my collection. Though my current interest is specifically naval aviation, the vast majority of the photos in this book are of Air Force aircraft (indeed many are of F-105 "Thuds" which almost makes this a case of being able to judge a book by its cover). Less than a quarter (if even that many) are of ...

P-47 Thunderbolt in Action - Aircraft No. 672 reviews
Larry Davis

Squadron/Signal Publications, 1985

P-47 Thunderbolt in Action
This is the second of two "in Action" products on the P-47. Both are very good in each of their own right. This publication goes into more detail on the Thunderbolt, while the first issue is more to the using organizations. Photo work in both P-47 in Action books are exceptional. Color art work has got to be some of the best around. I have both editions in my reference library and continously ...

P-61 Black Widow in Action - Aircraft No. 1061 review
Larry Davis, David Menard

Squadron/Signal Publications, 1990

A good history ot the P-61 with excellent illustrations.
The appeal of the "In Action" series has always been their wealth of photos, multi-view drawings and artwork, combined with a reasonably detailed history of the subject. This book certainly follows that pattern in its treatment of the P-61. All variants are covered--with excellent illustrations of details and entire aircraft. Two revelations come from the text. In P-61s built without the ...
