Cartoon History of the Universe 2: Volumes 8-1336 reviews
Larry Gonick

Main Street Books/Doubleday, 1994

The universe in comics... finally...
Comics have no limits. Anything can get depicted with words and pictures. And, after Larry Gonick completes his "Cartoon History of the Universe" series, most everything will be. Over the past three decades Gonick has stretched modern comics from the purely fictional into the scientific and historic. He has cartoonified esoteric subjects that would bore most medieval scriveners. Snoozers like ...

The Cartoon Guide to Physics25 reviews
Larry Gonick, Art Huffman

Collins, 1992

Finally!
I was a lousy science major in high school. Looking back, I have no idea why I chose the subject I did anyway. The point is, I never understood half the stuff we were going through. Now, 10 years later, I've forgotten the few things I did understand. Thanks to the magic of Larry Gonick I get now get it! At first glance it still looks hard. They really dive right in with formulas and stuff, ...

Larry Gonick

W. W. Norton & Company, 2002

There is only one thing wrong--
There is only one thing wrong with "The Cartoon History Of The Universe". Each volume has a 7 to 10 year wait between them! However, they ARE excellent. A fine, well-researched history, presented in a fun graphic style.

Cartoon History of the United States30 reviews
Larry Gonick

Collins, 1991

Accurate and entertaining
I am not from America but I live here the last 7 years. By far the most pleasant history book. Very accurate and funny, easy to read. I am from Greece and I was surprised to see that the author makes a very precise comment about the involvement of the US government in the Greek politics. It is worth its price and even more. I have bought it as a gift to many friends and they all enjoyed it

Cartoon History of the Universe 1 Vol. 1-7 (Cartoon History of the Universe) (Cartoon History of the ...51 reviews
Larry Gonick

Main Street Books, 1997

Wow! If only high school/college history had been this fun and insightful
You know it takes a comic to get to heart of humanity. In most history books you get a narrow point of view, and one that is usually "politically correct" according to the standards of the day. By making a comic version of history, the author can get around all of the "PC"ness of most history books and really hit home with the way humanity *is* and *always was.* The "sheep love" of early ...

The Cartoon History of the Modern World Part 1: From Columbus to the U.S. Constitution (Cartoon History of ...21 reviews
Larry Gonick

Collins, 2007

I love this guy.
He always uses humor to bring low the ego of man and the pomposities of our forefathers, and hence ourselves. It's good we don't take ourselves too seriously. We will make better choices for our future that way. For those who might criticize this book as glossing over certain episodes: Well, I hope this isn't someone's *only* history book. It should just be in everyone's collection along ...

The Cartoon Guide to Sex19 reviews
Larry Gonick

Collins, 1999

funny and informative
I would recomend this book for every one. It is funny and entertaining enought to keep a person reading but it contains enough information to get something out of the book. The book has a rather small section (5-15 pages) on how to fix sexual problems, but the main focus on the book is more on explaining and listing human sexual nature.

Kokopelli and Company in Attack of the Smart Pies4 reviews
Larry Gonick

Cricket Books, 2005

Are Bunker Busting Bear Claws the Future of Muse Prankfare?
Let me start with my [dis]qualifications: I am a 46 year old childfree science teacher familiar with the works of Larry Gonick, but pretty clueless about Kokopelli & Company or Muse Magazine [I did a little research before I bought Attack of the Smart Pies - I read a good number of the Kokopelli & Company strips on the Muse Magazine website]. I am obviously NOT part of the target audience for ...

The Cartoon Guide to (Non) Communication : The Use and Misuse of Information in the Modern World2 reviews
Larry Gonick

Collins, 1993

Communication is hard, but this book makes it easier to understand
Communication between humans is very hard, as there are so many different ways in which information can be sent. Furthermore, all communications are carried out in a historical and local context. There is the history of all previous communications between all involved and there are the current surroundings and exterior conditions. Even the same words spoken in a different tone of voice can impart ...

Cartoon Guide to the Environment9 reviews
Larry Gonick, Alice Outwater

Collins, 1996

Well-written, fun-to-learn comic book.
Rarely do I post anything on the web, but I feel obligated to do so now in defense of this author. Global Warming is covered on pages 64, 201-3, and 207 as listed in the index. Ozone Depletion, page 199 & Acid Rain, page 198.
