Little Quack's New Friend6 reviews

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2006

NICE LITTLE LESSON HERE AND THE LITTLE ONES LOVE IT.
The cover of this book (I am reviewing the hardback), is enough to catch your eye and it will certainly catch the eye of your child. I recently had the pleasure of reading this one to a group of pre-school kids, and not one child was unhappy with the choice of book. I even got requests for seconded readings! That is a nice endorsement for any childrens book. This work is actually a bit of a ...

Mouse's First Day of School2 reviews
Lauren Thompson

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2003

My son's favorite book of all time!
My son Ben, who is about to go into 2nd grade, calls this his favorite book of all time. He is especially fond of the illustrations - and we have even decided that we should frame the dustcover! That is a pretty ringing endorsement from a 7 year old! We plan to buy all of the books in the "Mouse" series over the next year. Perhaps we will buy them in order of seasons/holidays.

Polar Bear Night (New York Times Best Illustrated Books (Awards))14 reviews

Scholastic Press, 2004

A Captivating Bedtime Book
While many children's bedtime books are trite and redundant, every now and then you find one that's unique. "Polar Bear Night" is one of those books, and it immediately became a favorite of both kids and adults in our house. It has a sparse visual style that's also very interesting - much more like retro graphic design than typical children's illustration. Still, the animal characters are ...

"You can do it! I know you can!"
With characters named Widdle, Waddle, Piddle Puddle and Little Quack you know that your pre-schooler is bound to love this book. It's a cute little story about the ducks leaving the nest for their first big swim, and how Quack builds up the courage to leave the nest with lots of love and encouragement. There are wonderful lessons here for little readers, but the best and most amazing part of ...

Sweet Night Time Story
My 18 month old has had this book for 7 months. She absolutely adores it. We not only read it at bedtime but whenever the mood arises. She carries the book around and would sleep with it if we let her. The story is wonderful and the pictures inside are so sweet and beautiful. My little one will sit and "read" her book through the pictures all the time. A great one to have around for ...

The Apple Pie That Papa Baked4 reviews

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2007

Hack off a slice
There's a difference between self-centered nostalgia and respectful inspiration, but the line between the two is difficult to walk. Every season there's a handful of books that try to reference the authors and illustrators of the past with mixed results. If it goes wrong then the book ends up feeling like a pale knock-off of the classics we already know and love. If the book goes well then you ...

Little Quack's Bath Book4 reviews
Lauren Thompson

Little Simon, 2006

My son loves to splash to this book.
At first, I thought, how lame--a book with little ducks going in the water and that's it. There's really no plot here. But, my son kept wanting to read it during bath time. So, each time a duck goes in the water in the book, we make big splashes in the tub. This makes my son laugh and laugh. With a little creativity in delivering the content of the book, we were able to make it a lot of fun. I ...

Charming Illustrations
My 20 month old loves this book and asks for it to be read again and again. She now uses the exclamations in the book - "hooray," "fun," "pretty." She is delighted that Minka plays hide and seek but leaves his tail sticking out for her to discover! "Hip, hip hooray for fall!"

Sweet story, perfect bedtime tale for little ones
Little Quack's Hide and Seek by Lauren Thompson and Derek Anderson is another sweet tale in the Little Quack series. I do love children's books, but I don't go out of my way to read them, but the sweet, lilting language of Thompson mixed with the bright, charming illustrations by Anderson have made this book a favorite in our house. It's perfect for reading quietly before bed. It's Anderson's ...

Wee Little Chick (Wee Little)

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2008

Wee Little Chicken is the smalles of all his new brothers and sisters. Will he let that stop him from climbing the highest, running the fastest, and chirping the loudest? No way - when he puts his mind to it, Wee Little Chicken just might show all of the animals on the farm that wee little is just the right size.

First Mouse Book, Not the Last!
I bought this cute book after seeing the great, vivid pictures in it. When I got home, we read this book to our baby to be and my husband loved it. It has a sing songy, repetition to it that will be great for our baby as he gets older. I definitely was pleased and I am excited to collect the rest of the Mouse books from this author.

Mouse's First Snow1 review
Lauren Thompson

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 2005

Good book
My daughter has Mouses' First Christmas and likes it, so we thought we would get this book. She enjoys reading it more than the other one. It is about a mouse and his poppa playing in the snow. They make a snow mouse, a snow house, mouse angels and so on. It is a cute winter theme book to read with your little one.
