I first read portions of this book in a 'book bar' in Lhasa, Tibet back in November 2007. I couldn't find it anywhere in the book stores in Beijing on my way home so I was quite happy to find it on Amazon. For those readers looking for insight into the spirituality of the Tibetan people and perspective on Tibetan Buddhism, any of the three books written by Laurence J Brahm on this subject are ...

A useful and funny introduction to entering the Dragon
This book shows in a very entertaining way how ancient Chinese warfare strategies still apply in the new China of today . The stories described offer an excellent illustration of the often bizarre and difficult to grasp Chinese behavior patterns and realities of a very complex society and country in transition. At the same time the reader is taught one major , indispensable ingredient for ...

A great book indeed!
This is a very informative book even from a native Chinese perspective. It really captures the ethos of the Chinese social thinking, in its most essential strategic sense. I wish I myself had read that long ago.

A disappointing read....
It is not often that I am so disappointed by a book purchase. Had I actually been able to thumb through it, I most certainly would not have bought it. This is a book of big print and small ideas. White space and empty pages pad the number of pages from less than 100 to nearly 300. Of these, 10 pages are given over to glossy photos of Party leaders accompanied by vacuous comments. Indeed, the ...

Lawrence Brahm Mixed Review
I am nearly finished reading Zhu Rongji & the Transformation of Modern China and must say I have mixed reactions. Older, but good perspective on China, professorial tone
An interesting micro-historic viewpoint. Good background to compare to more modern books. However, the tone is extremely professorial and not very interesting overall. Better to listen to the "Elephant and the Dragon", a few years more up to date. Provides perspective from several years ago, which is a good juxtaposition to current times.
