Flavored Breads1 review
Linda Collister

Ryland Peters & Small, 2003

Linda Collister did it again
This little book is amazing. I live in Italy and for years I looked for a recipe that allows me to do the Focaccia. Non of the recipes I found were good. 'till I bought this book and tried "Focaccia al rosmarino". Absolutly great! Since then I made most of the recipes featured here and all of them came out perfect. The recipes in here are: Bacon and walnut fougasses Focaccia with rosmary and sea ...

Heavenly Chocolate1 review
Linda Collister

Ryland Peters & Small, 2002

Whoops, maybe the editors should have TESTED the recipes
The VERY FIRST recipe I attempted from this book led me astray. Although sugar was listed in the ingrediants for the Chocolate Chip Muffins, it was sadly missing from the instruction text. By the time i realized it (as in, "hey, these have no flavor") it was too late. I guess no one double-checked these recipes before printing them. I can only guess how many others in the book are incorrect. ...

Bread: From Sourdough to Rye2 reviews
Linda Collister

Ryland Peters & Small, 2005

This book will enable anyone to achieve perfect breads
As a keen experienced amateur chef I have occasionally over the years tried turning my hand to bread baking, but with discouragingly poor results. However about 3 months ago I began scouring the internet for information; downloading various recipes plus notes on using the correct types of flour etc, and within about a month I was achieving good results and had at last acquired the basic feel for ...

Country Breads of the World: Eighty-Eight of the World's Best Recipes for Baking Bread5 reviews
Linda Collister, Anthony Blake

The Lyons Press, 2000

10 star must own bread book
I own and use a variety of cookbooks almost daily since we have eclectic international tastes. And baking bread is something I do the old fashioned way a few times per week. There is nothing as sumptuous as the smell of bread baking or the taste of a warm piece of bread slathered in real butter. And the heartier the better. None of the light as air no substance white bread for me. And this ...

Scrumptious Pies & Tarts (Baking Series)1 review
Linda Collister

Ryland Peters & Small, 2003

Brings pie-making down to a do-able level.
Making pastry is perhaps the bane of all bakers, even the professional ones. But with this book, the process will hopefully be made easier and certainly less painful. The book begins with a short introduction on what a pie is (a delicious combination of filling and pastry), and then moves on to the basics in making pastry. Unlike other baking books that take up pages and pages outlining the ...

The Bread Book9 reviews
Linda Collister, Anthony Blake

The Lyons Press, 2002

simple but excellent
This is my favourite bread book, all the recipes I have tried worked well, although I'd suggest a different book for sourdough's. In response to a previous reviewer, the water volume will never be completely accurate because it depends on the flour used. I have tried more modern books by Rose Levy Beranbaum and Reinhart, but this is still the book I return to for my everyday bread.

Chocolate Temptations1 review
Linda Collister

Ryland Peters & Small, 2003

Buy this even just for the photos!
This is one of those handy little books that is just a joy. For starters, the full-colored photos (almost one each per recipe) speak volumes: the photos are superb and so multi-textured that you could seemingly eat the devil's food cake (pg 25) and the chocolate brulee (pg 63) right off the page! The book begins with a brief (just 3 pages) introduction to the types of chocolate, how to melt it, ...
