Telegram!: Modern History as Told Through More Than 400 Witty, Poignant, and Revealing Telegrams4 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz

Owl Books (NY), 2004

DELIGHTFUL AND ADDICTIVE - PACKED WITH SURPRISING INSIGHTS
This book is on my telephone table and I pick it up every time I pass by. In a pre-email era, the arrival of the Western Union envelope was a cliff hanger. When words were money, the messages were distilled to their bare bones: joy, despair, longing, and witty one upmanship are a few. Most of the telegrams involve familiar celebrities, artists, and historical figures who are suddenly illuminated ...

The Last Word on First Names: The Definitive A-Z Guide to the Best and Worst in Baby Names by America's ...17 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz, Pamela Redmond Satran

St. Martin's Griffin, 1995

Best baby name book ever!
This book was so entertaining and insightful. Sure, sometimes it was opinionated, but it's nice to hear a few opinions about a name anyway. I really enjoyed their perspective. It's a few years old, however - go with the new edition: The Very Last Word on First Names. Haven't seen it, but it's sure to be good.

Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana : What To Name Your Baby Now56 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz, Pamela Redmond Satran, 1999

Perfect Baby Name Book
So many baby name books just list names broken down into various categories and maybe they give you some details for the name (origin, pronunciation, etc.). I thought this book was great because it really gives you advice on naming your children. Plus it was fun and easy to read which is always good.

Beyond Jennifer & Jason : The New Enlightened Guide to Naming Your Baby11 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz, Pamela Redmond Satran

St Martins Pr, 1994

Go beyond naming your kids!
I'll be honest with you. I have two children already, and I used this book to help select names for both of them. I even wrote margin notes, and devised complicated mathematical formulas to help determine the best fit for the baby. First, the initials could not spell any horrendous words like: BAD, or SAP. Secondly, the name had to be simple and easy to spell. It's no good challenging a ...

St. Martin's Griffin, 2003

I LOVE these books!
I adore the books these authors write; they are my soulmates! I have been interested in names ever since I was a child, and their books totally feed my craving. I love their insightful and intelligent advice, I love their humor, and I love lists! I love knowing WHY people (and celebrities) named their child what they did. Knowing trends is very important to me; I would never want my child ...

The Baby Naming Journal2 reviews
Chronicle Books LLC Staff, Pamela Redmond, ..., 2000

The Best Name Book Ever
I was so excited to discover this book. Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz are -- hands down -- the very best baby namers in the business and I have always found their advice to be extremely useful. Their previous books (including Beyond Jennifer and Jason & The Last Word on First Names) were far and away my favorite books when I was naming my first 3 children. Pamela and Linda are ...

My Life as a List: 207 Things About My (Bronx) Childhood3 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz

Clarkson Potter, 1999

A lively, endearing, and rejuvenating biography .
Linda Finch has written a lively, endearing, and rejuvenating biography that will take you back to your own roots, Bronxite or not. Her non-chronological life list is both warm and peppery. Vibrant little memory flashes weave an indelible sense of her World War 11 childhood in the Bronx and resonate with our own. My Life As A List is wonderfully laid out with an amazing number of family ...

Baby Names Now : From Classic to Cool--The Very Last Word on First Names26 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz, Pamela Redmond Satran, 2001

This One's My Favorite
If you're looking for a dictionary of baby names, there are about a zillion other books out there to choose from. But if you've already looked at the typical baby name lists and were left feeling uninspired, check out "Baby Names Now". The authors offer real world wisdom and advice about each name. Each entry is clever and funny. Their descriptions are often completely subjective, but that's ...

The Baby Name Bible: The Ultimate Guide By America's Baby-Naming Experts13 reviews
Pamela Redmond Satran, Linda Rosenkrantz

St. Martin's Griffin, 2007

A Fun Name Book - Where We Found OUR Sons Name!
This book was a lot more fun and complete than other baby name books. This is where we picked our new 3 week old son's name (Colton). The definitions and descriptions for names in this book are humorous and accurate, and the book has a "key" for names on the rise, decline, or are unisex. A great resource. If you're going to get only one baby name book, this is the one!

Beyond Charles and Diana: An Anglophile's Guide to Baby Naming3 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz, Pamela Redmond Satran

St. Martin's Press, 1992

The best for unusual but classy names.
This book is for those with eccentric tastes who don't want something totally weird or made-up sounding. The English use some fabulous names; hopefully this book will inspire more Americans to follow suit.

Beyond Sarah and Sam: An Enlightened Guide to Jewish Baby Naming4 reviews
Linda Rosenkrantz, Pamela Redmond Satran

St Martins Pr, 1992

Cute, Clever and Creative
I found the unique listing and advice very helpful. When trying to find names it is easy to find a list wth the meanings, what is difficult is to find creative ways to use that "First Letter" or to find a middle name to work well with the other name. At least There were advisories to those thousands who named their daughters after comets and chees . (Haley Brie!)

Has Minor Flaws But I Love it Anyawy!
I have Irish ancestry and I absolutely love Irish names and I bought this book and despite the lack of pronunciations and the few pronunciations they give being questionable I still love this book and all the cool catagories and lists that are so much fun to read and this is definitely my absolute favorite baby name book! I have found a lot of great boy and girl names that are so different then ...

Great book if you are struggling with choosing a name!
I almost didn't pick up this book in the bookstore. I mean, I figure any book that actually gives itself the moniker of "cool" would by default NOT be cool, right? Plus, there are tons of free website with lists of names, so why would I need to buy a book? But I started thumbing through it, showed it to my husband and we decided it was exceptional enough to buy it. The book is grouped into ...
