A must have for steam enthusiasts
Maybe I looked at a different book than the previous reviewer. This is dynamite. It's obviously great for model makers, but I like it just for the reference info and the photographs. Couple this with Drury's Guide to North American Steam Locomotives and it's a great reference set.

For building benchwork, this is the best book out there. Benchwork is not fun or glamorous but it is the foundation of all that will follow. It does not pay to skimp on it. Magnificent
Mr.Wescotts story on his friend John Allen is told very well and is a good insight on the greatest model railroad builder of all time. The pictures of the railroad in this book bear out the afore mentioned statement.A must have for anyone interested in model railroading and I'd recommend it to non railroaders who would appreciate a thing of beauty.

A Good Start on a Serious Model RR Hobby
Bought first ed as a teen when going from toy trains to scale model railroading. Still going strong. Techniques have advanced since then, especially in scenery techniques and command control (visit your hobby shop for the latest), but one could still build this layout to learn all the basics for a lifetime of model RR fun. Author is LINN Westcott (note error in Amazon listing.)
