An absolute "must-have" for anyone who lives or works aboard boats
Galley Guru: Effortless Gourmet Cooking Afloat is a gourmet cookbook especially for anyone faced with the challenging task of cooking on the seas - with strictly limited space that won't necessarily stay stable! Yet gourmet cooking (rather than just subsisting on canned stews) is entirely possible with proper preparation and organization. Recipes ranging from "Jiffy Hot and Sour Soup" to "Pouch ...

Practical, useful advice anyone can apply
"The Alarm Clock of Your Life is Ringing: Time to Wake up to Happiness and Enlightenment" is a book about achieving happiness by reconnecting to parts of your self that have been lost emotionally and/or spiritually. One of the basic premises of the book is that emotions come and go and when they rise up they are meant to flow through your body and out. However, that is not the case for most of ...

Perfectly executed!
This book was perfectly conceived and executed. These 24 smart stories by 12 smart women cover the whole tonal range -- funny, poignant, gut-wrenching, beautiful, thoughtful, irreverant, wonderfully sappy... And the publishing concept itself was brilliant, a clever way to crack a difficult market: strength in numbers, taking power into their own hands...in retrospect it seems so obvious, but ...

Expert Advise that is highly readable
I couldn't disagree more with the culinary student. Having been a hospitality manager for 15+ years plus a college instructor for 6 years, I found that Miller's advise is dead-on. The cases presented are real world too. Don't be deceived by the readability of this text. It is solid as a rock. He gives practical advise that you can refer to year after year. If you want empty theory, read ...

INSIDERS' FILM-MUSIC GUIDEBOOK GOES PUBLIC
I first noticed this book in the office of the National Academy of Songwriters in Los Angeles, where it was used as a sort of coffee-table reference book for their members, who are increasingly interested in the film world as a potential market for songs. Now, book in hand, I confess I'm genuinely excited about Northam's and Miller's achievement, which Northam describes as a manual intended ...

An excellent book for understanding this devastating disease
After hearing that The Encyclopedia of Alzheimer's Disease was honored as one of the top 25 reference books for 2002 by the New York Public Library Association, I immediately went out and bought this book. Now, when I talk to my mother's doctor, I quickly look up the unfamiliar terms and understand everything that he is saving. My husband's father also has Alzheimer's Disease and lives in another ...

Excellent pocket guide
This is an excellent, compact book with everything you need to know about fetal monitoring. Fantastic pathways, clinical guidelines, and examples of EFM strips. Wording is clearly defined, and is the most up to date according to NICHD guidelines. This handy little book is small enough to keep in your pocket while working in the hospital unit. Great for nurses, students, midwives, and ...

"There was a feller here once, by the name of..."
Mark Twain is undoubtedly America's "Great Man of Letters." A complicated author, he flowed easily through humor, satire, psychological horror, politics, religion, and pretty much any other subject imaginable. He was able to hold up a dark mirror to society, and stare unflinchingly at the organizations, traditions, and political and moral decay that always threaten to drown a civilization. And he ...

A fun ride
This probably isn't the deepest international intrigue novel out there, but I think the twists and "I forgot my briefcase" moments alluded to by another reviewer were obviously intentional as each author picked up the tale. That said, I think the book was better edited than most single-author ventures are these days. I did enjoy the different styles, some of which stand out more than others. I ...

Avoid this book if you can
This book should be renamed as "Adventures in Microsoft Office". The book has almost nothing to do with MIS or managing information systems. Aside from MS tech, the book has a lot to offer.
I picked this book up not because of the Microsoft-specific solution, but for the HIPAA overview. Sounds like the other reviewers already had that, but for me this is the first place I've seen it all laid out. As for it being Microsoft-specific, I just feel obligated to point out that this book documents a very specific solution that Microsoft put together with one of its partners. So, while the ...

Scholarly, solid information, non-technical read
This encyclopedia offers a whole lot more than just entries on the thirty plus different organisms that cause sexually transmitted diseases. Some of the entries provide fascinating historical information and ...

Not particularly insightful.
This book and this series is not to be mistaken for the highly acclaimed series of similar title, Your Eight-Year-Old, by Louise Bates Ames. This is 62 fairly thin pages filled with not particularly helpful insights such as "Lots of girls now play soccer" from a British author. While it may have relevance to the UK, the understanding and advice does not seem current to anything in the US. ...
