Zuina Bezzaf - MUST READ BOOK!
This book was GREAT! It's the best one out there, and it's a Fantastic price. So much information, helpful phrases, easy word spelling for prnounciation. This book was so helpful and yet so simple, it takes you from basic topics such as "Religion" "People" "Places" "Transportation" "Feelings" and so many other topics. This is a must read book. And it's so small, you can bring it anywhere.

Korean: Lonely Planet Phrasebook1 review
Minkyoung Kim, J. D. Hilts, ...

Lonely Planet, 2008

Useful Little Book
I have the 2002 version, so I'm not sure about the differences. However, I love this book. It is very accessible to a first-time speaker of Korean. Its grammar section lays out some of the most basic rules in a clear, easy-to-follow way. It provides tons of words and phrases with Korean script, romanization, and English. I usually think of phrasebooks as written only for travelers but ...

French: Lonely Planet Phrasebook8 reviews
Michael Janes, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2008

extremely useful
I went to France not knowing any French except what I learned from songs, and somehow I didn't think knowing how to say "fish" and "will you go to bed with me?" would be good enough. This book was really great for a lot of different situations and was way more useful than my friend who claimed to know French from 3 years of high school. The pronunciations were particularly useful, although be ...

Mexican Spanish: Lonely Planet Phrasebook14 reviews
Rafael & Cecilia Carmona, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2003

LAM
I think these books are perfect for any traveler. With the Spanish language being so unique to each country, the phrasebooks allow you to familiarize yourself with a specific Latin American region. I used the Costa Rican book last year when I visited and found it so useful that I left it with my friend who had just moved there. She found it so helpful that she still carries it with her ...

Latin American Spanish: Lonely Planet Phrasebook9 reviews
Roberto Esposto, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2003

Came in very handy in South America
This was a great compliment to my spanish skills. I am not fluent, and therefore, this resource was a huge help. I would not count on just this, as we were in many areas with no english speakers. It was a great supplement to my Spanish I level of speaking. I love that there were 3 dictationaries: english to spanish, spanish to english, and restaurant terms in spanish to english. All came ...

German: Lonely Planet Phrasebook6 reviews
Gunter Muehl, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2008

Good reference
If you know no German, like me, it's a useful book for pronunciation and vocabulary. It also includes useful, simple sentences that can help you out in a pinch. It's not a textbook, so purchasers of it shouldn't expect detailed info. I bought it on impulse at LAX on my way to Munich and was glad I did.

Thai: Lonely Planet Phrasebook10 reviews
Bruce Evans, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2004

Great phrase book
This is a great little reference book if interested in learning Thai. Using some kind of on line or person audio assistance is necessary since Thai is tonal.

Brazilian Portuguese: Lonely Planet Phrasebook18 reviews
Marcia Monje De Castro, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2008

Extremely Helpful
I just returned from a trip to Brazil, and though I know some Spanish, I had no previous exposure to Portuguese. This phrasebook proved invaluable in helping me bridge the gap, and contributed to me having an even better time, and blending in better with the locals.

Came in handy for all sorts of scenarios you'll enounter...
I travelled alone in Italy for one week, and this little book was so helpful...referenced it again and again during my visit. It came in handy for practical situations travelers always encounter...directions, menu verbiage, and basic conversation with locals. It also helped in more specific situations...for women traveling, this will help you formulate quick responses to the "ciao bellas" ...

Hungarian: Lonely Planet Phrasebook5 reviews
Christina Mayer, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2005

Excellent New Hungarian Phrasebook!
Well, I am a native speaker of Hungarian myself, so I was quite curious to see this book. For the most part, I found it very good. The main part of the book, the phrases are quite good and natural - it really shows that they had native speakers check it. The phrases cover all sorts of issues from shopping to visiting a doctor or even dating and having sex! The boxed texts on culture are also ...

Southeast Asia: Lonely Planet Phrasebook1 review
San San Hnin Tun, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2006

Lonely Planet, THE only guide for adventure travel!
I have visited 42 countries, mostly "adventure" style and Lonely Planet is THE guide to use! Their books are compact, concise and authoritative. I have often visited countries (usually less developed countries) for months at a time where I take only one carry on bag. As you can imagine I need to have a lot of information at my fingertips in a form that's small, lightweight and full of ...

Mandarin: Lonely Planet Phrasebook31 reviews
Anthony Garnaut, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2006

Um, it totally uses pinyin
I have no idea what most of these reviewers are talking about. This phrasebook absolutely uses pinyin (although it's possible that previous editions did not). This book was without question the most useful thing I had when I lived in China (for six months). Not only does it have excellent sections on grammar, etiquette, and non-verbal communication (which really you will use a lot more than ...

Greek: Lonely Planet Phrasebook2 reviews
Athanasios Spilias, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2006

Excellent phrasebook!
We are getting married in Greece next summer and this phrasebook has helped me remember so many of the Greek words & phrases that I will need to know. I already know how to speak & read Greek, but this is an excellent refresher. It is a small book that you can take with you everywhere. Definitely recommended.

Hindi, Urdu & Bengali: Lonely Planet Phrasebook2 reviews
Richard Delacy, Shahara Ahmed, ...

Lonely Planet, 2005

Good introduction to Hindi & Urdu
I've been using the computer program Rosetta Stone to learn Hindi, and it's extremely helpful in getting a person started with learning the grammar, some basic words, and the script. But Rosetta Stone doesn't teach you the really crucial basic phrases, like "Hello, how are you?", "My name is Bob," or "Where is the bathroom?" That's the specialty of this phrasebook--teaching you the basic ...

James Jenkin, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Great tool
This little book helped me immensely on my trip to Russia... basic survival skills were laid out up at the front and the pronounciation was dead on. The social section produced some smiles with the friends that I met.

Dutch: Lonely Planet Phrasebook2 reviews
Annelies Mertens, Lonely Planet Phrasebooks

Lonely Planet, 2007

Easy to Use Phrase book
I have several Dutch phrasebooks and this is the latest one I bought and the best. I would say if it isn't the best it is one of the best dutch phrasebooks out there. I recomend this book for people moving to the Netherlands or even if they are staying for a short stay. Yes, most all Dutch can speak a good amount of English but you get really far with them if you at least try to speak Dutch. ...
