Handy booklet for care and management of rasp/black berries
My husband really likes this booklet because it's not intimidating. He's not one to read a thick book. This booklet gives concise and very helpful information about care of your raspberries/blackberries. I reccomend it for anyone starting with these types of berries.

Carrots Love Tomatoes: Secrets of Companion Planting for Successful Gardening30 reviews
Louise Riotte

Storey Publishing, LLC, 1998

Better Gardening
This book has been great with helping to plant my garden using natural methods of pesticides. This is done by planting plants that repel insects and diseases next to each other. It is a very good way to keep from using chemical pesticides, and to get optimal yields of vegetables and fruits. I highly recomend it for the orgainic gardener or the beginning gardener. It is an exellant guide for all.

Catfish Ponds and Lily Pads: Creating and Enjoying a Family Pond4 reviews
Louise Riotte

Storey Publishing, LLC, 1997

A poetic account of country living.
This is a beautifully written book! It contains many whimsical anecdotes on the process of building a pond, also much practical information on plants, fish, frogs, turtles, and ducks. Having just built a pond, I found this book just the ticket. It doesn't have much about the actual digging and construction--that information is best obtained from your local Soil and Water Conservation Office. ...

Roses Love Garlic: Companion Planting and Other Secrets of Flowers7 reviews
Louise Riotte

Storey Publishing, LLC, 1998

Companion veggie gardening
I originally bought this book over 20 years ago from Rodale press and lost it in one of my many moves. It is an excellent resource for companion and inter-planting of flowers, many of which are edible, with vegetables. I now garden in containers and the concepts in this book lend themselves easily to this kind of gardening.

Sleeping with a Sunflower: A Treasury of Old-Time Gardening Lore3 reviews
Louise Riotte

Storey Publishing, LLC, 1995

A book that is exactly what it says it is- gardening lore
Tucked in between these pages are quotes, poems, symbolism, old wife's tales, recipes and more that keep you well entertained. Brings to mind some of the things your grandmother told you but you never quite understood why. Like why am I putting eggshells by this plant and bananna peels by this plant? This book not only tells you why but in a humerous and easy going way. This is a great ...

Astrological Gardening: The Ancient Wisdom of Successful Planting & Harvesting by the Stars2 reviews
Louise Riotte

Storey Publishing, LLC, 1995

My all-time favorite gardening book
It's not as weird as it sounds. Okay, there are references to astrological connections and such, but there's also theory around water levels and tides driven by the moon. At any rate, I have been through the Master Gardener program and tried various methods to increase yield (red plastic mulch for tomatoes...you name it, I've tried it), yet the planting scheme outlined here has created the ...

Raising Animals by the Moon: Practical Advice on Breeding, Birthing, Weaning, and Raising Animals in Harmony ...1 review
Louise Riotte

Storey Publishing, LLC, 1999

A delight to read, a treasure trove of new concepts
For those who have a genuine respect for the law of nature, this book will be a welcome friend. You will empowered with a strong sense of the balance and rhythym of the earth and it's inhabitants. This book equips you with the inspiration and knowledge to forge into the largely neglected synergy of seasonal cycles and animal well-being.

Roses Love Garlic1 review
Louise Riotte

Garden Way Pub. Co., 1983

Farmers almanac style information-
This is written as an A-Z style dictionary of gardening tips, up to date with the revival of natural pest management and organic gardening. Somehow this little book gets jam-packed with amazingly thoughtful, motivating and entertaining information-- very much reminds me of gathering materials from farmers dusty notes over a period of lets say 200 years or more. Has a believable wisdom put into ...
