Lucy Maud Montgomery

Great introduction to literature for children
This series is a wonderful way to introduce your children to literature. I have an 8 yr old and a 6 year old. All I have to do is read them the first chapter and my 8 year old keep reading to the 6 year old. They have read through this book as well as 8-9 others in this series. Each one keeps them captivated and encourages a love of reading.

Best of 3 Audio Versions
As another reviewer, I, too, have enjoyed the book and the DVDs immensely, but I have also grown to really enjoy audio books. Looking for an audiobook about a simpler time, I decided to buy the audio version of Anne of Green Gables. But the first version I purchased, read by Shelly Frasier, just didn't bring the book to life for me. Ms. Frasier seemed bored with the passages describing the ...

Delightful, sweet, funny and dreamy.... Anne of Green Gables
first read Anne of Green Gables when I was 8... I loved it then and still love it now (some years later). It's an all time classic, heartwarming story, with everlasting appeal for age 8s to adults. First published in 1908, it's every bit as readable now as I'm sure it was 100 years ago. Naughty, dreamy, emotional Anne is a wonderful role model - with her fiery temperament and endless chatter, ...

One of the Two books I have read over and over....
The Golden Road and its prequel, The Story Girl, are two of the best books I have ever read. I never seem to get tired of them, either...I have read them countless times! If you enjoy L. M. Montgomery's novels, such as the Anne of Green Gables series, these books are a must. The Golden Road tells the story of cousins, Beverley (who narrates the story), Felix, Cecily, Felicity, Dan, and Sara ...

A Breath of Fresh Air
I'll always have a special place for the earlier books, especially 'Anne of the Island', but nothing is unmatched to 'Anne's House of Dreams'. I always have a certain problem when reading Anne books. Although I enjoy the plot and characters, I resent the melancholy, wistful feel to it everytime Anne goes into a new chapter of her life. There was the last chapter of the first book; 'A Bend in ...

This is the first of a series of books about redheaded orphan Anne Shirley. Published in 1908, Canadian Lucy Maud Montgomery found her inspiration for the book in a newspaper article describing a couple that was mistakenly sent an orphan girl instead of a boy, yet decided to keep her. She also drew upon her own childhood experiences in rural Prince Edward Island. Recently considered a children's book, Anne of Green Gables was originally intended ...

Kilmeny of the Orchard35 reviews
Lucy Maud Montgomery

FQ Publishing, 2007

A beautiful, simple love story...
This is one of my all-time favorite fairy-tale love stories. No, it's not realistic, and Eric and Kilmeny have precious few faults, at least that we are told about. But I don't think that it's because they don't have any... it's just a love story... not the story of their lives. Eric is awed by Kilmeny's music, first... and then he is wowed by her beauty. And then, as the weeks go by and ...

Wonderful, warm and... cheap
I love this book and I always have. English is not my native language, I got to know "The Story Girl" in translation - and a good one, too - but I have always longed to read it in English and to find out how Maud herself wrote it. The book is amazing, written from a perspective of an adult, it gives an account of childhood. When I read "The Story Girl" I always get the feeling I'm in someone's ...

An excellent book for girls
but my whole family loves this book along with the whole series. L.M. Montgomery's style of writing brings you right in with Anne. She makes the reader feel like a kindred spirit. A girl who is accidentally chosen to be adopted winds up being the best thing that ever happened to Green Gables. Lots of fun and excitement is the only thing that can describe the life of Anne.
