Lynne Cherry, Gary Braasch

Dawn Pubns, 2008

Science, Service, Global Warming
One of the worst things about reading global warming books is that feeling of helplessness that sets in as statistic is added to statistic. Now, at last, Lynne Cherry has produced a well illustrated text that tells us how we can help by observing and documenting changes in the world around us. There are no grand claims, no easy solutions, but the hope that as we know more about what is happening, ...

The Snail's Spell (Picture Puffins)2 reviews
Joanne Ryder

Puffin, 1988

Excellent factual and imaginative book for younger children with beautiful illustrations
I found this book to be extremely helpful in teaching my 4yr old daughter about snails and how they live while also allowing her to see beautiful illustrations and use a bit of her imagination as well; so the book hit three important characteristics that are needed for a child's storybook. It tells of a child's imaginative journey through his/her garden while watching a snail; the child imagines ...

The Armadillo from Amarillo7 reviews
Lynne Cherry

Voyager Books, 1999

Great book!!
My daughter loves armadillos, so when I saw this book at the library, I had to bring it home. It is great. It took her interest in armadillos and combined it with geography. The author did a great job of intertwining the fact that there are 50 states and linking that with the continents and our place on earth and the planets in the solar system. For us, this is definately worth purchasing!!

A River Ran Wild: An Environmental History5 reviews
Lynne Cherry

Voyager Books, 2002

This book is fantastic for third graders!
I used this book with my third grade class when they were studying the effects of water pollution on a large body of water. They had already studied Native Americans in second grade and this book just blended the two subjects together. The step by step portrayal of man's harm to the Nashua River helped my children learn about how they were harming the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Lynne ...

When I began writing Flute's Journey, I was going to put Flute in the woods at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center where I was then artist-in-residence. How Groundhog's Garden Grew8 reviews

Blue Sky Press, 2003

Enchanting children's book!
This book is utterly charming! I have to admit, I bought it for our toddler because I fell in love with the drawings and wanted to own a copy. The book tells the story of a little groundhog who learns all about growing his own food from his mentor, a squirrel. The story takes us through the whole year, and Ms. Cherry's illustrations of animals and plants are wonderful! We have a small ...

Interesting story, beautiful illustrations
At our library, I gather books for teachers to pick up and check out for use with their lesson plan subjects. I always pull Lynne Cherry's Kapok Tree for teachers who are teaching about rainforests.
