Marvel Comics, 2008

Some of the best character moments in a very long time...
If you're looking for a book that promises "an all out action extravaganza" or to "forever changes the status quo," look elsewhere. Here you'll find more internal conflicts than external ones, more moral conundrums then explosions. Mike Carey is an extraordinary writer and uses these little vignettes to give real depth to Messiah Complex. Without it, the big crossover would seem pretty damn empty.

New X-Men: Childhood's End, Vol. 25 reviews
Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost

Marvel Comics, 2006

amazingggg!
In response to the other reviews- yeah, this is more violent and darker than some other comics, but WHO CARES? The fact that people are affected by the death of certain characters shows how incredible the writers were in making the characters connectable and meaningful! It's sad, but beautiful and even neccesary for the poignancy of the plot. I can't wait for the next one!

New X-Men: Childhood's End, Vol. 14 reviews
Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost

Marvel Comics, 2006

Dark, fearful, and moving towards chaos.

The 200-MPH Billboard: The Inside Story of How Big Money Changed NASCAR3 reviews
Mark Yost

Motorbooks, 2007

Interesting background
For the NASCAR fan, or for those who don't understand how millions of people can watch cars drive in circles for hours, this book reveals how big business drove the consumer to the racetrack. It provides a look at the fascinating history of the sport. While clearly well researched, I found the writing annoying when the author repeatedly makes a statement, followed by the words: but more about ...

Tailgating, Sacks, and Salary Caps: How the NFL Became the Most Successful Sports League in History5 reviews
Mark Yost

Kaplan Business, 2006

Creating Big Business from Sports
I wasn't around then, but from reading it seems to me that during World War II baseball was indeed America's pastime. Football was a distant relative, perhaps about where soccer is today. Now the World Series comes and goes, while every bar and restaurant has a Super Bowl party, and the supermarkets are loaded with Super Bowl displays of beer and snacks. This book doesn't describe the sport ...
