What Is an Evangelical1 review
David Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Banner of Truth, 1993

Advice from a veteran
This is a great little book. It contains helpful description of the evangelical faith, as well as advice for preserving it. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is a Welshman who was one of the most popular preachers in London for many years, and has published many books of bible expositions, especially on Romans and Ephesians. This book is a series of talks to the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students ...

Nancy Guthrie

Crossway Books, 2008

An anthology of Advent readings collected from the writings and sermons of 22 classic and contemporary theologians and Bible teachers. Between purchasing presents and planning travel, enjoying holiday pageants and attending parties, it is all too easy for Christmas to silence the sacredness and crowd out a quiet anticipation of the season?s truths. So when editor Nancy Guthrie decided she wanted a reflective book of Advent readings that would ...

Out of the Depths: Restoring Fellowship with God3 reviews
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Crossway Books, 1995

Out of the Depths--a Classic of "The Doctor"
This is an exposition of Psalm 51 from the greatest Biblical expositor of the 20th century. If anyone needs certainty about whether the Lord has begun His work of grace in their soul, MLJ provides the true meaning of repentence, not the perfectionism or be "good and try harder" that is out there.

Great Doctrines of the Bible: God the Father, God the Son; God the Holy Spirit; The Church and the Last Things2 reviews
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Crossway Books, 2003

Yes!
This is one of the bests books I have ever read. It is essentially a systematic theology usuing the same format as Calvin's Institute's, or Charles Hodge or Louis Berkhof, but it is so much more accessable to modern readers, especially lay-people. It is precise and Biblical, without wondering from the main line of thought. Very, very good.

Spiritual Depression: Its Causes and Cure20 reviews
David Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1965

The Best Book on this Subject!
This book is written by one who understands what the Scriptures teach regarding depression. Before you seek a drug prescription, read what Jones has to say. You will be "glad" you did.

Preaching & Preachers10 reviews
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Zondervan, 1972

BEST BOOK ON PREACHING
Lloyd Jones book on preaching is the best I have read. Of the over 50 books that I have read on preaching, his book is definitely the best. This book is not necessarily a how-to, its more a philosophy book - something that preachers today need to think more about. Too many are concerned with the method and not the man. Being the right man, filled with the anointing, is crucial before you can ...

Joy Unspeakable4 reviews
David Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Kingsway Publications, 2008

Jones has a unique view of the Holy Spirit.
For a reformed author, D. Martyn Lloyd Jones has a unique view of the Holy Spirit. Unlike most Baptist and Reformed authors he holds that a believer may not initially be baptized by the Holy Spirit on conversion. His view is similar in some ways to that of many charismatics. However, Jones emphasizes the sovereignty of the Holy Spirit and sees the signs of his baptism as a new power to bear ...

The Assurance of Our Salvation: Exploring the Depth of Jesus' Prayer for His Own1 review
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Crossway Books, 2000

Safe In This World
This book is a good expostion of the prayer that forms part of the Farewell Discourse. It contains much needed insight and exhortation. Martyn Lloyd-Jones was the Westminster Chapel preacher for more than 30 years. 1. He preached that the Baptism of the Spirit was not part of regeneration. That won him favor with Charismatics, as this supports their view of the special ...

Studies in the Sermon on the Mount27 reviews
David Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1984

Classic Reading From A Godly Man
This book on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is one of the best books ever produced by Martyn Lloyd-Jones. If you have never encountered Lloyd-Jones then you will be blessed as you read this book and discover a man with a passion for both the Word of God and the God of the Word. Lloyd-Jones, according to John Piper, is one of the last true Calvinistic Methodist from the days of George ...

Life in Christ: Studies in 1 John5 reviews
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Crossway Books, 2002

An Outstanding Study
I recommend this series highly. Every chapter is a five star sermon that not only informed and enlightened, but called me to a closer walk with God and His Son Jesus Christ. I have been mightily impacted forever by what I have read here.

The Kingdom of God1 review
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Crossway Books, 1992

Great Book!
This is typical Lloyd-Jones. As with most of his books, these are a series of his sermons that were later transcribed. In my opinion, this is some of his best evangelical preaching. I was once told that if you want to learn how to preach, sit under a great preacher. Well, we can no longer hear the "fire" of the Doctor's voice, but due to this, and the many other books of his sermons published, ...

Christian in an Age of Terror, The: Sermons for a Time of War1 review
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Kregel Academic & Professional, 2008

sermons from 1939-1950
This is a collection of sermons from WWII and the early part of the cold war. The author started out as a physician and then became a pastor. He has analytical skills seldom found in pastors and theologians.

Walking with God Day by Day: 365 Daily Devotional Selections4 reviews
Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Robert Backhouse

Crossway Books, 2003

Wonderful, Deep Devotional Material in a Readable Format
Finding helps for our devotional time can be a challenge. Often, many of them merely offer a "Daily Crumb" rather then a satisfying meal of Scripture. This new collection of the late Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones writings, arranged into 365 daily readings, seeks to offer devotional material that engages the mind in addition to the heart. One feature I especially like in their arrangement is that each ...

The Cross: God's Way of Salvation5 reviews
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Crossway Books, 1986

A profound and enlightening focus on Galatians 6:14
Lloyd-Jones, in nine chapters (sermons) on Galatians 6:14, brings to light the central focus of early Christian preaching. He shows how the cross, and it message, has been God's proclamation of deliverance throughout the Scriptures. It is not simply Paul's message, but that of Jesus, all the epistles, and the Old Testament as well. Lloyd-Jones' passion, as well as his precision in analysis, ...

Seeking the Face of God: Nine Reflections on the Psalms2 reviews
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Crossway Books, 2005

We need more preachers like MLJ
This book, which is a collection of nine sermons from the Psalms, was originally published in England in 1991 and published in America for the first time last year. Although many of the illustrations in the book are circa 1950's, I found Lloyd-Jones' assessment of Christian religion to be just as relevant today. I have a clearer understanding of God as a result of reading this book. A survey ...

Spiritual Depression2 reviews
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Zondervan, 1998

refreshing change of venue for spiritual reading
I really enjoyed the articulate 1960's perspective of this gifted pastor. He's little known in any Christian reading circles that I have ever been in, and gave me great spiritual relief in being able to be free from the bondage of a works mentality and the nagging doubts about the state of my soul based on my behavior. A good soak in the 'good news' that Christ died for any sin that I could ...
