Please Don't Wake the Animals: A Book About Sleep1 review
Mary Batten

Peachtree Publishers, 2008

Excellent bedtime "story" for young naturalists
We read a lot of stories here at bedtime but it is so wonderful to find a nonfiction title that fits cozily into that right-before-lights-out mix. This new book by Batten is a gentle, interesting look at how important sleep is, and how sleep patterns, postures, and places vary among the creatures of the earth. It's also appropriately playful. (The opening sentence is: "Shhh. Please don't wake the ...

Relieve Stiffness and Feel Young Again with Undulation11 reviews
Anita Boser

Vital Self Inc, 2007

"Body friendly" and practical
Why do I love this book? Let me count the ways: 1) The exercises in this book are very "body friendly". If something feels uncomfortable, just continue moving without making the one move that is uncomfortable, and soon the "stuck" spot starts moving. You don't have to hurt before you feel better. 2) I also find the movements give almost instant gratification - how often do you feel better ...

Balancing Your Body: A Self-Help Approach to Rolfing Movement6 reviews
Mary Bond

Healing Arts Press, 1996

A way of life!
Some Tai-Chi masters say that you should strive to do Tai-Chi so well that you don't do it anymore. Mary Bond's book BALANCING YOUR BODY is a western approach to this ideal. This is a method of exploration, discovery and action to achieve dynamic balance and harmony in a constantly changing internal/external environment. My personal situation precludes formal exercise in definite ...

A Tradition That Has No Name: Women's Ways Of Leading1 review
Mary Field Belenky, Lynne A. Bond, ...

Basic Books, 1999

An inspiring study of human development through mutual care.
I would like to recommend A TRADITION THAT HAS NO NAME to Amazon readers. The first author, Mary Belenky, is probably best-known for her co-authorship of WOMEN'S WAYS OF KNOWING, which described a model of women's development of "self, voice, and mind." TRADITION explores how presumably powerless, "voiceless" women have learned to speak out in ways that have changed their own lives and their ...

Hey, Daddy: Animal Fathers and Their Babies1 review
Mary Batten

Peachtree Publishers, 2002

Interesting, and Original
This book is very interesting, original, and talks about a lot of different animals. I like science, yet I was surprised to find animals in this book I had not heard of. It is a very cute book, I loved sharing it with my five year old. Super great find-at an Aquarium in Baltimore. We highly recommend it!!!

Rolfing in Motion: A Guide to Balancing Your Body2 reviews
Mary Bond

Destiny Audio Editions, 2005

Excellent Rolfing Companion
I first discovered the cassette Balancing Your Body a few years ago, and fell in love with it. I lost it a few years ago and no longer have a tape player, so I was upset not finding it on CD. So I contacted the author and discovered that this is the CD version!! YAY!! Mary starts with a set of "breathing lessons" that are out of this world. I have never come across a better set of instructions ...

The New Rules of Posture: How to Sit, Stand, and Move in the Modern World20 reviews
Mary Bond

Healing Arts Press, 2006

A revelation
I have been receiving Rolfing treatment for a while and had experienced a lot of improvement but I wanted more. I eventually realised that no treatment is going to work unless after/in between treatments you make life style or muscle movement pattern changes. I first came across the free down loadable article on Mary Bonds website about sitting. This article is one of the chapters in the book. ...

Who Has a Belly Button2 reviews
Mary Batten

Peachtree Publishers, 2003

Fun, informative and great springboard for conversation..
I read this to my 4 year old boy and he was totally engrossed in it. It provides a very natural springboard to other conversations regarding bodies, facts of life, etc. Plus the illustrations are great - good lines, colors. Multicultural and because it also shows other mammals, very attention-getting. Would recommend without hesitation.

T Is for Twins: An ABC Book4 reviews
Mary Bond

Source Book Publ., Half Full Press, 2002

Great ABC's and twin book!
I got this for my twin daycare girls. They loved it. I loved that it had both the Capital and lowercase letter. Their mom loved that it a frame in the back for their picture. T Is for Twins: An ABC Book is a great way to celebrate being a twin for young kids.

Rolfing Movement Integration: A Self-Help Approach to Balancing the Body1 review
Mary Bond

Inner Traditions, 1993

One of Most Interesting and Most Useful Self-help Books you Will Find
We don't usually pay attention to the things we are familiar with until they star to fail. The same applies to our body. We don't have to blame age or bad luck, when our body is simply reflecting emotions and stress through unbalances and stiffness. This book is about balancing the body through a series of structural awareness exercises that focus on balance in how we walk, breathe, sit, and ...

To James Bond With Love2 reviews
Mary Wickham Bond

Sutter House, 1980

excellent book for biologists, not 007 fans
This book is a biography of the ornithologist after whom Ian Fleming named James Bond 007. It is written by the ornithologist's wife, who also wrote "How 007 Got His Name." It is amusing and well-written, but probably won't appeal to 007 fans unless they have progressed to the level of fandom in which their reading has bled over into "Fleming studies." Even then, probably would appeal more to ...

Tecnicas de Rolfing-Movimiento1 review
Mary Bond

Ediciones Urano, 1996
