May I Feel Said He6 reviews
E. E. Cummings, Mary Tiegreen

Stewart, Tabori, & Chang, 1995

WOW!
This is one of the most beautiful combinations of poetry and art. The poem is really quite beautiful. The art is inspirational. I don't knwo that I'd give it to a couple for their wedding though, cause the poem is about a man who is cheating on his wife....So don't take the advice of the other reviewer, the couple might look at you funny!

Mary Cummings

Sparkling Press, 2006

Perfect for adventure-starved boys!
Vivid characters, edge-of-the-seat tension, a compelling story - AND THE BAKER'S BOY WENT TO SEA is an absolute dead-on account of how it really must have felt to live and serve in a submarine's sardine can-style quarters under the constant threat of lethal attack. Storm in the Night4 reviews
Mary Stolz, 2008

Imagery at its best!
I am a fourth grade teacher and this book is perfect for teaching various forms of figurative language. There are plenty of opportunities to explore similes, metaphors, onomotopoeia, and personification. The imagery is rich and vivid. Since its language and illustrations are more sophisticated, it captures and holds older students throughout this story making it a treasure for teaching students ...

Auricula Meretricula (Focus Classical Library)1 review
Ann Cumming, Mary W. Blundell

Focus Publishing/R. Pullins Company, 1988

A Raunchy Comedy - On the Level of the Best XXX Works!
... and it's in Latin. The title just about sums it up - Auricula Meretricula means, in Latin, The Little Prostitute Auricula. Lest that should leave potential poor little Latin students - who hopefully are not prostitutes themselves - unaware of what is in store, just read the peerless passage in which the soldier character compares a specific virtue to a rose, in graphic detail. The villain is ...

Tales from Shakespeare (Children's Classics)21 reviews
Charles Lamb, Mary Lamb

Penguin Audio, 1997

Ideal for family reading hour
The Lambs' classic book is an ideal read-aloud text and a perfect introduction to Shakespeare for young readers and listeners. We've found it suitable for our older children especially -- ages 7 and up. Each "tale" takes around fifteen minutes to read, and although some of the vocabulary is rather elevated, vocal inflection and emphasis can aid comprehension. The Lambs have done a commendable ...

Hurricane in the Hamptons, 1938 (NY) (Images of America)1 review
Mary Cummings

Arcadia Publishing, 2006

A well done book
This book is one of the Images of America series and is a very good value. It contains a wide variety of pictures of the Great New England Hurricane of 1938 with very well written accompanying text.

Mary Lou Cummings, Missy Cummings

Writer's Showcase Press, 2000

Thank you for telling it like it is.
Thank you Missy for telling the world your story. As a women aviator in the Air Force I feel like you took the words right out of my mouth. Wow! All women interested in military aviation need to read your book to better prepare them for what they are up against. I only hope it doesn't discourage future women from trying to obtain their goals. Go Hokies!

Three Names of Me6 reviews
Mary Cummings

Albert Whitman & Company, 2006

Like a work of art...
This book is lyrical in its beauty - telling the story of a young Chinese adoptee in powerful but spare words and beautiful artwork. Might be best for the 9 and up group - my eight-year-old is not emotionally mature enough for this book yet, but I can tell it will be important later on.

Little Tree1 review
E. E. Cummings

Element Books Ltd, 2000

The Tree as a true symbol of life
It is difficult to put into words the complex beauty of this book. If you are not familiar with the poetry of E.E. Cummings, this book will make you a surefire fan. The verse is sensitive, gentle and intimate. Beautifully paired with the whimsical, delicate and ever-bright illustrations by Mary Claire Smith, this book will sing to you and your child's hearts. There are very few stories about ...

Stealing Home: Intimate Family Portrait by the Daughter of Jackie Robinson, An1 review
Mary Stolz, Pat Cummings

HarperCollins, 1996

The Robinson Home
I guess I went into this book with the wrong expectations. I thought this would be a book about Jackie Robinson. But it was almost exclusively about Sharon, his daughter. And though she had an interesting life, I feel like her book didn't go far beyond the surface. I felt like she really didn't know her father all that well, or at least she didn't express that in the story. I have no doubt that ...

Kosovo: Perceptions of War and Its Aftermath1 review

Continuum International Publishing Group, 2002

be prepared to focus real hard on this one
This book is a really hard read. It is broken down into regions and countries. Beyond the first couple of chapters I had to put it down and keep it as a reference book. Most of the information was repetative and didn't really give a huge amount of insight. Way too slow a read and very little information using too many words. .

Stealing Home (Harper Trophy)5 reviews
Mary Stolz

HarperTrophy, 1994

An interesting book about change
This is a novel about a boy named Thomas who lost his parents at age 1 and has lived with his grandfather since then. He and his grandfather have developed similar interests (baseball, fishing, games) and have become very comfortable with their bachelor-type lifestyle. Then a great aunt comes to live in their cramped house. All sorts of adjustments have to be made and Thomas is not happy with ...
