Alpine Gets More Exciting Day By Day!
So far, I've read three of the books in the Emma Lord mystery series and they've all been great! Ms. Daheim does a great job of keeping the reader in suspense throughout the whole book. Every character is continually developed throughout the whole series making each book in the series interesting! Most series get dull after a while, but not the Emma Lord mysteries!

Dylan insists that his late father-in-law Tom Cavanaugh planned to buy the newspaper to add to his empire, but died before he could make a deal. book description
Katherine de Vere would have given her life for king and country, but marrying a foolish fop to suit a whim of King James was another matter altogether. Especially after Kat had a taste of true passion courtesy of Stefan Dvorak, the bold, dark vagabond who stole her heart... The English lass stirred Stefan's gypsy blood more than he cared to admit. Though he knew she was in a fix, he had more ...

One of the best
The Alpine Quilt is one of the most cohesive of the Emma Lord mysteries. The story line is pieced together exactly like a quilt. I have read every one of this series, and so far, in this book, the interweaving of the characters and the plot is excellent. Be on the look out for some surprises.

A great begining
The Alpine Murder Mysteries start here in the first three books included in this Omnibus. The characters come to life and have you rooting for them through all the good and bad that comes with this and then all the following books. I so recommend The Alpine Series for some light reading and fun times through murder and mayhem.Start with this book and continue through the line of alphabetical ...

A very good mystery
Emma Lord has owned and operated Washington State's Alpine-Advocate for over a decade. Nearing fifty, Emma has covered more stories, solved several homicides, and has scooped her peers more often than she would like to remember. Currently, she has the inside track to a Seattle murder that leaves her quite uneasy since the suspect is her dimwitted cousin Ronnie, a person she has not seen in about ...

Murder With That Facial?
Emma Lord, owner and editor of the Alpine Advocate was just going to Stell's Styling Salon to get her hair cut. The last thing she expected was to open the wrong door in the Salon and discover a woman laying on a table with her throat cut. This happens in the first pages of the book. Emma is even more stunned when shop assistant Laurie Marshall tells her the person on the table who was ...

Enjoyable and insightful mystery--a good one
When a college professor is killed during a student play, newspaper owner Emma Lord decides to get to the bottom of what might be an accident but could be murder. Nobody much liked Hans Berenger--but disagreements over sports policies or dating hardly seem like good enough reason for murder. Still, in a small town like Alpine, Washington, secrets are hard to keep. Emma suspects that a mysterious ...

Mystery on Seattle's Queen Anne & Magnolia Hills!
This is one book in a series of bed-and-breakfast mysteries set in Seattle, Washington. Anyone familiar with the city can tell that the author, Mary Daheim, has changed the place names, but retained the feel of the city in accurate descriptions. Heraldsgate Hill is really Queen Anne Hill. Norway General Hospital is really Swedish Hospital. Papaya Pete's restaurant is really Trader Vics. ...

Emma Lord Keeps On Going!
Wow! This is the fifth book in the series, and the books are still exciting! Mary Daheim writes light murder mysteries that are both intriguing and hard to put down. If you like a good challenge, pick up one of these books and try to figure out "whodunit!" This whole series is so exciting because Mary Daheim continually lets all of her characters grow and she introduces new characters with ...

Light but filling
If you need a light fun read this is definitly the series for you. This was a hard book to put down. If you live in a small town you see your own local characters popping up on the pages. The Alpine books are a great escape from heavy fiction. I'd recommend the complete series.

Heartbreak Comes To Alpine
Emma Lord, owner and editor of the Alpine Advocate is furious, she's being scooped. Being the only paper in town, she's not used to that, but sincer Spencer Fleetwood - owner of the new radio station KSKY has come to town, she's no longer the sole sorce of local news. It was bad enough when he scooped her on the disappearance of snowboarded Brian Conley several months before, but now it looks ...

A great opening book in the series....
I have read several women sleuth series, and this one is very good. I could not put it down! I never guessed the ending! All of the story pieces neatly fit together by the end of the book. I can't wait to start reading "The Alpine Betrayal", the next in the series. The vivid description of the Pacific Northwest make me want to visit Seattle again and explore!

Another great book from Mary Daheim
I loved this book. It is set in Yeovil and Somerset, England. My sister lives in Yeovil, so it really made me homesick for the English countrysides. The things she wrote about are true about those areas in England. I liked the characters, too. They were truly British. Like most of her books, I didn't figure the whodunit until almost the time that Judith did. And I love Renie. She is so much like ...

Emma Lord, editor of The Alpine Advocate, is awakened by the fire truck sirens. She goes out to investigate and finds that the nearby home of Tim and Tiffany Rafferty, newlyweds, is going up in smoke. Later that day she discovers that Tiffany and her unborn child are safe. Unfortunately Tim wasn't so lucky. He perished in the fire. Sheriff Milo Dodge suspects it was murder and arson. Emma ...

A mystery, straight up with humor!
Judith Flynn is not James Bond when it comes to solving mysteries because Bond himself was never this real nor this funny! Toss her cousin, Renie Jones into the mix and you have a pair of the zaniest, middle aged sleuths this side of....uhhhhh....well, any Agatha Christie characters. This was my first experience at reading a Mary Daheim book but, certainly not my last. It was a riotious read ...

"Can't put it down" type of book.
For the fans of Mary Daheim's "Alpine" series, this is a pleasant addition. We see Emma Lord more comfortable in Alpine, accepted by the townspeople and coming to terms with her faith. The domestic violence, economic crisis are portrayed in a way to make you think about these issues. Small-town living? Not what everyone makes it out to be. In "The Alpine Icon", Ursula O'Toole Randall comes home ...

Who knew Elmer was going to die?
An obituary is received at the office of The Alpine Advocate, weekly newspaper in Alpine, Washington, of resident Elmer Nystrom. When Emma Lord, publisher, and Vida Runkel, House and Home editor, go to call on Elmer's wife, she tells them he's alive and well. When they go out to the henhouse to talk to him, they find his dead body lying on the floor half covered with straw. It is soon ...
