One Handed Catch 7 reviews Mary Jane Auch, 2008
An awesome read! As a mom of a child with one hand, this book was insightful and enjoyable to read. After Norm loses his hand in an accident at his family's store (not a gruesome description given), the author goes out of her way to carefully describe how this one incident affects so many others. The characters' reactions to this change in Norm's life are enormously accurate and heart-felt (and sometimes ...

Dumbstruck 2 reviews Sara Pennypacker
Holiday House, 1994
A superb children's book. Dumbstruck is one of our favorite books. It stretches our imagination and takes us into the best kind of childhood fantasy. Borage and Armilda Clott get what they deserve when their orphans exact their revenge... We can't wait for Sara Pennypacker's next book and hope it's just as good. 10 times better than James and the Giant Peach

Get ready to laugh! Here is a histarical book about a chicken who dreams of being a famous ballerina and puts herself in danger of a wolf just for her one big chance. My daughter, and mother and I were all just roaring with laughter. My mother can do a wonderful southern accent and applied it to Poulette's voice. It was great! This book is great to do voices with for the different charectors! You're child ...

Chickerella 5 reviews Mary Jane Auch, Herm Auch
Holiday House, 2006
4 1/2 The Fowl Cinderella Using stuffed chicken mannequins (!) decked out in real chickel feathers. yarn wings, and clothes made from various fabrics (including her daughter's junior prom outfit), Mary Jane Auch creates wild muppet-like figures for this poultry re-telling of the Cinderella fairy tale. The costumes are, as they say, over the top, with day-glo like colored facial features from model clay, and an assorment ...

The Easter Egg Farm 6 reviews Mary Jane Auch
The Trumpet Club, 1992
A major hit with our 3-year old daughter. Our daughter has taken this book out of her pre-school library 5 weeks in a row. We all love the wonderful, lively illustrations. Most of all, we love the message -- different can be absolutely beautiful! With Mrs. Pennywort's encouragement, the especially talented Pauline can produce any egg she wants. A great story on all levels.

Poultrygeist 1 review Mary Jane Auch, Herm Auch
Holiday House, 2003
A Perfect "scary" story for young readers! This is a really fun way to introduce suspense to young readers. My daughter (age 4) loves this story and enjoys "reading" it by herself. I have to admit that the first time I read it, I was as curious to learn how it would end as she was! This is really a wonderful story and the illustrations are vibrant and lively.

Beauty and the Beaks: A Turkey's Cautionary Tale 2 reviews Mary Jane Auch
Holiday House, 2007
BEAUTIFUL BANTAMS - HILARIOUS HENS We all know what we look forward to in the latter part of November - Thanksgiving Day and juicy, succulent roast turkey. But, as that time approaches, how does a turkey feel? The writing/illustrating team of Jane and Herm Auch tell just how it is in their uproarious tale of Lance, a conceited turkey whose beak is out of joint because he's the only one invited to a feast. Why, he's so stuck up ...

I Was a Third Grade Spy 4 reviews Mary Jane Auch
Yearling, 2003
I Was a Third Grade Spy This story is very good. I like how Mary Jane Auch switched the characters narrating the story's chapters. For example, first it was the dog, Arful who was narrating a chapter, then it was a kid named Josh. I think that's cool. Overall I'd say this book was really good. WOW.

The Princess and the Pizza 10 reviews Mary Jane Auch
Holiday House, 2002
Original and Entertaining! What a fantastic book! It is original, clever, and funny. I like the plot, because although Princess Paulina misses parts of her life as a princess, she isn't bitter about no longer living in a castle and later tosses away the opportunity to be a princess again and enjoys life as a "commoner." I like the fact the drawings aren't of beautiful women, but more like caricatures.
My 8-year-old ...

Little Brown & Co (Juv Pap), 1991
Angel and Me and the Bayside Bombers Angel and Me and the Bayside Bombers, by Mary Jane Auch is a great book for kids ages 8 to 9 years old. This story includes amusing characters and situations that kids can relate to. I think everyone has been in a situation where you realize you don't know as much as you think you do. What makes this such a wonderful story is that we find kids can learn about themselves and what they are ...
