The Borrowers - Aloft7 reviews
Mary Norton

Dent Childrens Books, 1993

The Borrowers Aloft
I liked this book a lot. I like to read about how resourceful the Borrowers are when they use stuff humans don't need or misplace. It had really nice pictures, too. I recommend this book to kids five years and older.

Major Problems in American Women's History (Major Problems in American History)1 review
Mary Beth Norton, Ruth M. Alexander, ...

Wadsworth Publishing, 2006

Good Book with Good Information
I used the older version of this textbook for a class on Women's history, and this version pairs nicely with the older. It is filled with interesting essays and diary entries from women who experienced and lived through the best and worst times of history. Each account is riveting in its own right. Worth having on the shelf as a resource and makes for a great history text.

The Complete Adventures of the Borrowers - Including Includes: The Borrowers; The Borrowers Afloat; The ...1 review
Mary Norton

Harcourt. Brace & World, 1967

forget harry potter
Quite simply these books are enchanting. They will capture a child's imagination and get them to see the world in a new light. Miss Norton never makes a mistake, she is always true to her characters and makes this tale of the tiny working class family, Pod, Homily and their daughter Arriety who live under the floor boards of the kitchen of an old house strangely tenable. Her characters are ...

Acting: Advanced Techniques for the Actor, Director, and Teacher2 reviews
Terry Schreiber, Mary Beth Barber, ...

Allworth Press, 2005

Impressive
As an actress, in reading this book I was amazed at not only how well the book was written or at the way in which the author communicated his knowledge to the reader, but I was astounded at how honest and open the works embedded in this new book are. I recomend this book to actors, teachers, or anyone interested in learning the truth about acting.

EYE OF THE MONSTER and SEA SIEGE.1 review
Andre. [pseudonym of Alice Mary Norton] Norton

Ace Books,, 1962

Two classic adventures by Andre Norton
Eye of the Monster is an 80 page story that stands up pretty well. Rees Naper cannot persuade his uncle that trouble is brewing, but he can let Gordy, child of another couple working at the mission, along to Rees's job at another compound. Rees soon finds that they're in the midst of a native uprising and meets up with a Salariki woman and child. In order to find a way to escape, Rees has to ...

The Conservation of Artifacts Made from Plant Materials (Getty Trust Publications : Getty Conservation ...1 review
Mary-Lou E. Florian, Dale Paul Kronkright, ...

Getty Publications, 1991

The Conservation of Artifacts Made from Plant Materials
Not a book for the light reader (principally because it weighs too much!), but nevertheless an excellent reference book on the conservation of plant materials. Good books that cover this topic are extremely difficult to find, but this one not only presents its information in a clear, easily comprehenisble style (not something always associated with conservation reference books) it also has ...

THE BORROWERS51 reviews
Mary Norton

Puffin, 1992

The Borrowers by M. Norton
Whoosh! You see a hat pin sail across the room, much like a javelin, and pin onto the lace curtain. Then, a small man no more than six inches tall scurries across the room. Welcome to the world of the Borrowers; Pod, Homily, and Arrietty Clock. They live under the floorboards and borrow anything from potatoes to blotting paper. The tiny people live in an old country house, inhabited by ...

The Borrowers Afield7 reviews
Mary Norton

Odyssey Classics, 2003

Book Two in a Classic Series
Long before there were Littles or anyone shrunk their children, Mary Norton had written this warm and wonderful series about a race of tiny people who live hidden in quiet country houses and "borrow" their livings from the human inhabitants. Their lives depend on remaining unseen and unsuspected. But little Arietty Clock, who lives with her parents (Pod and Homily) is a naturally curious girl ...

The Borrowers Avenged6 reviews
Mary Norton

Unknown, 1983

The Saga Continues
Just to set everyone straight, this book is NOT based on the campy, sellout movie "The Borrowers." The movie should be renounced by all true fans, as it is a badly done attempt at commercializing on Mary Norton's brilliant ideas. Anyway, "The Borrowers Avenged" was written more than ten years before the Borrowers movie. It continues the story of Pod, Homily, and Arrietty, as they finally ...

YEAR OF THE UNICORN.5 reviews
Andre. [pseudonym of Alice Mary Norton] Norton

Ace Books,, 1965

My favorite Witch World Novel
"Year of the Unicorn" is my favorite Witch World novel among the many five-star novels in this series by Lifetime Grand Master of Fantasy, Andre Norton (Alice Mary North). Each setting, each character is illuminated with clear description and color, like scenes from a medieval Book of Hours. Even though I first read this book in 1965, I can still close my eyes and see Gillan and the ancient ...

Outsourcing Solutions: Workforce Strategies That Improve Profitability2 reviews
Eric Norton, Mary Jane Eder

Rhodes and Easton, 1997

This book helps you think through your outsourcing plans
The topic of outsourcing work has been around long enough that people think they understand it and that can be very dangerous. Now that we are coming out of the recession and there are signs that companies are starting to do some hiring (even though others are still cutting back), it is good to revisit this topic. Though this book was written during the boom when employees simply could not be ...

A Vindication Of The Rights Of Woman An Authoritative Text Backgrounds The Wollstonecraft Debate Criticism (A ...1 review
Mary & Carol H. Poston (A Norton Critical Edition) Wollstoneecraft

N.Y.: W. W. Norton & Company Inc

First Feminist
This was required reading for a graduate course in the Humanities. Wollstonecraft is not easy to read however, she makes a compelling argument. Mary Wollstonecraft viewed the institution of marriage simply as legal prostitution. She believed this to be the case for several reasons. First, the marriage laws in Britain at the time gave men legal rights over their wives including their property. The ...

The Borrowers - Afloat6 reviews
Mary Norton

Dent Childrens Books, 1993

More adventures with the Borrowers
In this, the third book in the Borrowers series (after The Borrowers, and The Borrowers Afield), the Clocks (Pod, Homily and Arrietty) find that they must leave the safety of their new house and venture forth once again into the great big world. Setting their sights on Little Fordham, a miniature model town, the Clocks follow young Spiller out. But the world is a dangerous place for someone as ...

Star Man's Son8 reviews
Andre Norton, Alice Mary Norton

Fawcett, 1981

After the Blow-up, What Next?
Star Man's Son (1952) is a post-apocalyptic novel that takes place about two centuries after the Great-Blowup. This story is also entitled Daybreak - 2250 AD in reprint editions. The cause of the catastrophe is unknown, but the effect are quite obvious. Much of the population was killed by the immediate effects of nuclear bombs, many others died later from the direct radiation and fallout from ...

Are All the Giants Dead4 reviews
Mary Norton, Brian Froud

Harcourt, 1975

Highly recommended
This wonderful book was written in 1975 by Mary Norton (1903-92), the author of the incomparable Borrowers stories. It tells the story of James, whose dream takes him to a distant land, where he meets many of the characters of old folktales, such as Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Jack-the-Giant-Slayer and Jack-of-the-Beanstalk. But, they are all old now, and past adventures. ...

WEB OF THE WITCH WORLD.1 review
Andre. [pseudonym of Alice Mary Norton] Norton

Ace Books,, 1964

Further adventures of Jaelithe and Simon Tregarth
"Web of the Witch World" (WWW - 1964) is the sequel to "Witch World" (WW) and continues the story of Simon Tregarth, the soldier who was transported from post World War II Earth to Estcarp, and fell in love with the witch, Jaelithe. Thematically, both WW and WWW will seem very familiar to fans of the late, great Andre Norton: a conflict between technically advanced, but soulless aliens, and ...
