Happy Birthday! : Bon Anniversaire (I Can Read French)3 reviews

Barron's Educational Series, 1996

Great Book For Teaching Toddlers
I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to teach French to a young child. The storyline could easily hold up as a regular storybook and the illustrations are great. I do find that the pronunciation guide would be a bit difficult for a non-French speaker to use and recommend this only if you have a bit of French yourself or access to someone who can help with pronunciation.

¡Quiero mi plátano! / I Want My Banana!1 review
Mary Risk

Barron's Educational Series, 1996

Great fun whether you read it in English or Spanish
A delightful way to read a story in English and learn Spanish at the same time (process also works in reverse). Monkey only wants a banana and refuses all other fruit jungle animals offer him. Children and adults can identifly with this single mindedness. All ages will love the simple words, rhymes and delightful pictures.

Mary Risk, Jacqueline Jansen

Barron's Educational Series, 1996

Fun, colorful, great for new vocabulary.
I teach French to elementary school children and they loved this book. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. And the story is entertaining enough for them to catch up on new vocabulary. The book itself is excellent quality as well.

A great book to teach some basic Spanish vocabulary
As a Spanish teacher in an elementary school, I use this book to help teach describing words. The children love how the elephant and giraffe make silly changes to their appearance; it holds their interest in the story and helps them learn the material. At the end of the story they clearly recognize the lesson: you don't need to change who you are because friends like you just the way you are!

Great Book
This book has a very cute storyline that appeals to my toddler and is a great way to learn some words for food and eating. The illustrations are beautiful and the hardcover is great quality. I highly recommend this book as well as the others in this series.

C'est magnifique!
My 6 year old was accepted into a French immersion kindergarten class, and these books have been extremely helpful. They reinforce the words he is learning in class and are easy for him to read in French or English, which allows him to boost his reading skills at the same time. The fact that it is in both languages helps me understand what he is reading, too.

¿Qué hay de almuerzo? / What's For Supper?1 review

Barron's Educational Series, 2000

C'est une surprise!
In preparation for travels next year, my 4-year-old and I are attuning our ears to French. What's for Supper (along with other books in this Barron's series) is just our speed. Carol Thompson's appealing illustrations make it easy for a preschooler to "tell herself the story." Mary Risk's story of children buying groceries and preparing supper for their mother - a surprise! - keeps us turning ...
