The Farmer's Wife6 reviews
Idries Shah

Hoopoe Books, 1997

Fun story, many more hours of fun just exploring the art!
This is a new twist on the types of stories that kids love to read and hear over and over. It begins with a lady making a simple request...she just wants her apple. The chain of events that results though, teaches cause and effect in a fun way. What really makes the book a lasting treasure is the art work. We found ourselves going through the book both from front to back and back to front ...

Elizabeth I: Collected Works4 reviews
Elizabeth I

University Of Chicago Press, 2002

Elizabeth in her own words
Queen Elizabeth I of England has had hundreds of books written *about* her, but very few of them allow us to hear what she has to say in her own words. I found this an accessible, well-edited collection, not of *all* her words, but of a very good sample. It includes all of the speeches, prayers and poems she wrote that are available from reliable contemporary sources (as with all famous ...

The Clever Boy and the Terrible, Dangerous Animal4 reviews
Idries Shah

Hoopoe Books, 2000

The Clever Boy and the Terrible, Dangerous Animal
The children in our preschool love books with big bold images, lots of strong colors, and a big surprise in the middle. This one is a perfect example. The children especially seem to delight in the idea of a little boy taking what the big people see as brave action in the face of their silly fear that only the little boy can see through. I highly recommend this one.

The Love of Impermanent Things: A Threshold Ecology5 reviews
Mary Rose O'Reilley

Milkweed Editions, 2008

Fascinating Read!
What a fascinating book! I would highly recommend this read. O'Reilley's way with words is mesmerizing. Her book makes you stop and think about your own history, your own family with all its quirks. Her sense of humor and deep reflection on her life make this book a true pleasure to read.

Staying Connected While Letting Go: Alzheimer's--The Caregiver's Paradox7 reviews
Sandy Braff, Mary Rose Olenik

M. Evans and Company, Inc., 2005

From the voices of caregivers................
Over the four years during which my brother and sister and I arranged for, and provided, care for our mother, I experienced the soul numbing range of horrors that Alzheimer's disease visits on both its victims and their caregivers. * The disbelief that my mother could possibly forget that she had asked me the same question three times in 10 minutes, followed by the self-hatred at my anger and ...

Are you out there, God?4 reviews
Mary Rose McGeady

Covenant House, 1996

Good for lost souls
This is a good book for people experiencing milestones in their lives. The stories about the children may help one realize that there are others living in inner cities suffering worse than you. This is an excellent book to give to someone looking for God.

Career Quest: A Practical and Spiritual Guide to Finding Your Life's Passion9 reviews
Mary Rose Remington

Heartwood Publishing, 2003

Manifest Your Dreams...Here's how
I love this book! I started reading it and I couldn't put it down. Now I can't stop talking about Career Quest and I've already told four friends to order this book right now. This book really hits a chord that is relevant for our time. I wonder how much untapped creativity is lost because too many workers are dying inch by inch at dead end jobs that they hate. It takes courage and a plan to ...

Radical Presence: Teaching as Contemplative Practice4 reviews
Mary Rose O'Reilley

Boynton/Cook, 1998

A wonderful reflection on life; Secrets to contemplate!
This is an absolute gem! A very quick read yet will not leave you when you put it down. O'Reilley's views on contemplative teaching have not come easy. She has questioned her practices as we all do, but somehow she has excepted herself and others shortcomings and has proceeded in giving us not necessarily a guidebook, but a "give it a try" book that should help us all through this journey ...

Gems here
As librarian for a Patients' Library in a hospital, I watch for books that may help patients and their family and/or friends cope with debilitating illnesses. The projects described are creative and practical, the approach is ...

Entre los Espacios3 reviews
Rose Mary Salum

Visible Magazine, 2002

Entre los espacios, a world of dreams a world of realities
This magnifecent collection of short stories is an entry to the passages of an oneiric world bound to the hardships of reality. The author through a poetic language creates an aura of fantasy which enables the reader to foresee the souls of its characters. Social commentary is expressed not through a direct invasive dialogue, but rather by evocative introspections of prose directly linked to ...
