Good for ESL knowledge
This is a good book for getting background knowledge for teaching ESL or working with anyone wanting to learn English. It is pretty technical but the book is organized well and will be a good reference many times. Practice tests are included. Very complete.

Dena Rosenbloom, Mary Beth Williams, ...

The Guilford Press, 1999

Healing, Helpful book
Dena Rosenbloom, Ph.D., and Mary Beth Williams Ph.D have written an extremely helpful book for trauma survivors. They work from the premise that: "Trauma affects us by undermining five basic human needs. These are: ?The need to be safe ?The need to trust ?The need to feel some control over one?s life ?The need to feel of value ?The need to feel close to others." Life After Trauma is designed to ...

Brothers in Hope: The Story of the Lost Boys of Sudan (Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Books)5 reviews
Mary Williams

Lee & Low Books, 2005

Terrific Book on a Tough Subject
I was very pleased to find this book. I have been the ESOL teacher of several Sudan refugees and this book clearly explains the trip the people have taken to escape. The kids can't always fully explain to me their experience but I can often see what affect their background has on their current lives in the United States. I liked that there was a picture book with easy to read yet indepth ...

Great for clinicians and patients!
I purchased this book because I am a Mental Health professional. There is a great deal of information that can be helpful in my practice as well as for any individual suffering from trauma. The self help exercises are very easy for one to practice on their own. Highly recommend this book.

Williams-Sonoma Collection: Ice Cream (Williams-Sonoma Collection (New York, N.Y.).)14 reviews
Mary Goodbody

Free Press, 2003

Great ice cream cookbook!
William Sonoma cookbooks tend to be strong and this one is no exception. Their recipes prioritize quality over short cuts and convenience and you can taste the difference. The recipes are more labor intensive than some of the basics, but the qualitative difference is worth the extra work. Many recipes are custard based which creates an added step, but results in creamier, richer textures.

Eyewitness Top 10 Travel Guide to London19 reviews
Roger Williams

DK Travel, 2002

The only book you'll need for a short visit
Compact, great pictures, well indexed. It won't scream "TOURIST" when you pull it out of your bag. I got this one and the Paris book. Used them exclusively. Barely opened the other ones I got.

Emmett's Pig
Mary Stolz

HarperCollins, 2003

Emmett really wanted a pig -- not a stuffed pig, or a glass pig, or a picture of a pig. He wanted a real pig. His parents explained that a boy couldn't keep a pig in a city apartment. But as Emmett's birthday drew near, he felt maybe he would get the pig of his dreams. First published as An I Can Read Book in 1959, Mary Stolz's warm story is presented here in picture-book format with Garth Williams's illustrations fully colorized by ...

Mary Sue Williams, Sherry Shellenberger

TherapyWorks, Inc, 1996

Awesome resource for parents
I got this book on the recommendation from a friend for my son who has some sensory integration issues. This book does a fabulous job of explaining sensory integration and the nervous system to those who may have never had any knowledge or understanding of these topics before. It has really helped me understand what is happening with my son and how to handle it. I love the real life examples ...

Excellent reference work for HIV clinicians
The second unit of this book is its essence, providing a comprehensive discussion of the common clinical problems associated with HIV infection. Magic Lanterns: Creative Projects for Making and Decorating Lanterns for Indoors and Out3 reviews
Mary Maguire, 2008

Incredibly Beautiful Projects
I don't own this book yet but I've probably checked it out at the library 3 or 4 times. I will buy it soon. I don't think the cover of the book does it justice. Some of the projects are not so special but I really think the handmade paper ones are exquisite. I have made the string of lights project and was pleased. It would look very beautiful in a backyard for a night time party. ...

The Land of Little Rain (Classic, Nature, Penguin)10 reviews
Mary Austin

Penguin (Non-Classics), 1997

Overlooked Masterpiece of Nature Writing
Mary Austin's work is roughly contemporary with John Muir's, although "The Land of Little Rain" comes after the publication of Muir's best work. It's been said that Mary Austin's work is the finest nature writing between John Muir's and Aldo Leopold's. I dearly love John Muir's writing, but Mary Austin is the better writer. There is a haunting, mystical quality in this book. At times it reads ...

Who Will Help? (Learn to Read-Read to Learn: Fun and Fantasy)1 review
Rozanne Lanczak Williams

Creative Teaching Press, 2008

good for elementary music or ESL class
The story is a retelling of "The Little Red Hen." Children enjoy playing the recurrent utterance of "Not me" on E-A-G on the xylophone or recorder. Furthermore, the text involves plural nouns, which are especially difficult for Asian students. Watch the price, though; the book is only 16 pages.
