Maryana Vollstedt

Chronicle Books, 2006

Everyone's Favorite!?!
I always hated Meatloaf - it always looked like SPAM to me - BUT - this book does some fun stuff with Meatloaf - and so I just couldn't resist!!! One of my favorite recipes is Frosted Meatloaf!!! What's that you ask?!? That's Meatloaf topped with Mashed Potatoes - the best part of that being that the potatoes actually hide the Meatloaf - the second best part is the title's tie in with dessert ...

Delicious recipes that don't require a million ingredients!
The best feature of this cookbook is that it uses simple ingredients. I especially like the soup and salad (and salad dressing) recipes, though I have also had success with the main courses and desserts. I have given this book as a gift to several of my GenX-aged friends because the recipes are simple enough for beginning cooks, but my mom and their moms seem to like it, too.

Change title to Big Book of Good Suppers
This is an excellent book full of simple yet delicious recipes. My mom has other cookbooks by the author and really enjoyed them. Then she stumbled across this one and after I flipped through it, I picked up one for myself. There recipes are very basic and easy to follow and call for normal ingredients. Nothing exotic or specialized. Even my meat and potatoes husband enjoys what I have cooked out ...

Best Breakfast cookbook I own!
I own a number of breakfast cookbooks, but I think this one is the best. The book has over 300 pages of recipes that are simple and easy to follow. I enjoy cooking a nice breakfast on the weekends, but I don't want to spend all morning in the kitchen - these recipes are quick enough that I don't have to. Also, just paging through the cookbook one morning I was able to find recipes that use ...

favorite cookbook!
We love this book! It is not for quick and easy dinners, many of them take some time and preparation, but it is worth it. Some of our favorite meals come from this book, and it's great for entertaining. We also cater and we have used recipes out of this book. The steak and artichokes with red wine, with the spinach verde is amazing! A great gift for anyone who loves to cook.

Clear, concise and tasty...
I have slightly above-average cooking skills, and must employ them at least 5 nights a week for my 6'4" husband and 9 year old daughter who both eat like they have hollow legs. This book is extremely easy to use, which is essential for my time-strapped evenings. After a brief introduction about technique and tools, this book is organized by food type, i.e. meat, poultry, seafood, vegetable ...
