Maxfield Parrish : Identification & Price Guide 3rd Edition (Maxfield Parrish: Identification & Price Guide)1 review
Erwin Flacks, Maxfield Parrish

Collectors Press, 1998

Advice From a Parrish Fanatic
Incredibly useful. I believe Flacks has written the most accurate and convenient pricing guide available for Maxfield Parrish collectors and anyone else who wants to figure out what a Parrish item is worth. If you're looking for a great coffee table book, I suggest Alma Gilbert's The Masterworks. -- James Halperin, sf novelist (The Truth Machine & The First Immortal) and Parrish collector.

The Golden Age (Art of Maxfield Parrish Series)1 review
Kenneth Grahame

Ten Speed Press, 1993

K. Grahame Examines Childhood
Kenneth Grahame's rich, elegant writing make "The Golden Age" a joy to read and reread. While it is a story of children in late Victorian England, it is not a childish book. Rather, it is an examination of how children view the world and are confounded by the actions of the adults around them. Grahame had a wonderful knack for presenting the child's point of view without being cutesy or ...

Dream Days2 reviews
Kenneth Grahame

Ten Speed Press, 1993

A rare gem indeed
If you are picking up this book, you most likely have read its companion, THE GOLDEN AGE. This book continues the exploits of the children introduced in the first volume. Veddy, veddy English. Completely delightful, though. I am not sure today's children would enjoy this book. The 19th Century British-isms will probably be quite tedious to any but the most precocious of children. And nothing ...

Maxfield Parrish and the Illustrators of the Golden Age2 reviews
Margaret E. Wagner, Maxfield Parrish

Pomegranate Communications, 2000

A superbly presented and informative art history.
Many books have profiled Parrish's art; Maxfield Parrish and the Illustrators of the Golden Age reproduces 70 works of Parrish and other illustrators of his times, using the archives of the Americana Illustrators Gallery and other resources to present works by a range of painters. Chapters provide plenty of text history of the works of these illustrators and their related styles. Highly ...

My Favorite Coffee Table Book
Fabulous retrospective of Maxfield Parrish's finest work. The illustrations are superb. This book is expensive, but worth the money. If you're looking for a price guide, I suggest Erwin Flack's book. -- James Halperin, sf novelist and Parrish fanatic.

Poems of Childhood5 reviews
Eugene Field

C. Scribner's Sons, 1904

A wonderful and classic book!
One of my very favorite books of my childhood. The copy I have was given to my mother in her childhood, and she read the poems to me. This book introduced me to not only some wonderful poetry, but also to the amazing artwork of Maxfield Parrish. I'm delighted that Scribner's has reissued the book in the original design.

Maxfield Parrish3 reviews
Michael J. Goldberg, Maxfield Parrish

Collectors Pr, 1999

Best Parrish 'Buy"
Of all the books on Parrish, these authors are the most responsible in the history of the artist, in their analysis of the art works, and their research of the genre!! The illustrations are directly from the original paintings and glow as do the originals themselves. Who can go wrong at $9.99 with such printing quality as this hardback?

Maxfield Parrish: The-Poster-Book3 reviews
Maxfield Parrish, Alma Gilbert

Ten Speed Pr, 1994

My review is extremely favorable, and I mean every word.
This book is tastefully constructed, and the quality of the prints is impressive. Aside from the amazingly coloured and detailed prints, a short biography is included for those newly aquainted with the artist. It is an excellent buy, not only for the purpose of economy, but with consideration to some of the lesser-known works. It is incredibly rare to see so many prints in one place. ...

The Arabian Nights3 reviews
Kate Douglas Wiggin, Maxfield Parrish

Book-of-the-Month Club, 1996

Wonders And Treasure
This is a good introduction into the tales of the Arabian Nights. Most of the tales involve characters seeking gold and riches of some sort and being able to get them easily by the use of magic. There is also a lot of turnings and twistings of fate; characters go from fortune to misfortune or vice versa. There is not internal depth to the characters here; so don't expect any interior monologues ...

Maxfield Parrish, 1870-19662 reviews
Sylvia Yount, Maxfield Parrish

Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine, 1999

Beautiful work and nicely presented
For a century, illustrators have been looked down upon by "fine artists." Finally, Maxfield Parrish, a truely FINE artist, gets his day. He's represented not as an illustrator, but as an artist. Having seen the originals 20 minutes prior to buying the book, I can say with confidence that the reproductions are the truest I have ever seen. A great in the art world (Daybreak was estimated to ...

The Arabian Nights, Their Best-Known Tales (Illustrated Edition) (Dodo Press)6 reviews

Dodo Press, 2007

Flights of Fancy
This version of "The Arabian Nights" is a compilation of ten of the most popular of the stories contained in the original"Tales of a Thousand and One Nights". The original contains two hundred and sixty-four stories. A lovely touch to the Barnes and Noble edition is that they include eight illustrations by Maxfield Parrish. While these stories have been the subject of movies for children, the ...

Maxfield Parrish: The Landscapes3 reviews
Alma Gilbert, Maxfield Parrish

Ten Speed Press, 1998

Wonderful book with rarely seen landscapes
Some of Maxfield Parrish's least known but most vibrantly beautiful works are the landscapes featured in this book. Here is his ultimate mastery of light and color. Although commercial illustration built his fame and fortune, Parrish's true love was landscape painting. Many excerpts from his correspondence attest to this fact and provide a remarkable glimpse into the background of the artist. ...
