Arnold Newman 4 reviews Poul Erik T0jner, Diana Thater
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, 2004
Almost as good as being there I just got back from the Newman exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C. and although I thought I had seen most of his work, I was stunned by the boldness of some of the photo collage work and color work which I had previously only seen in B&W. The book has all of the show and many more. It was $40 there and they were selling like hotcakes. The book is beautiful and has $1 million ...

Showcase Presents: Jonah Hex, Vol. 1 4 reviews John Albano, Arnold Drake, ...
DC Comics, 2005
wierd western tales If you want to read a Sergio Leone movie in graphic art form, Hex is the book for you. Most of the stories are a step up from your ordinary western fare. Its like Shane/ The Man With No Name or Gary Cooper riding across these pages. For a comic written in the early 1970's it takes on topical issues and doesn't hold back. This is not the Vertigo version of Hex but it provides one with a wonderful ...

Hebrews to Revelation 1 review
Zondervan, 2002
Bible Backgrounds Commentary Essential Historical Understanding I had the privilege of taking a New Testament exegesis course from Clint Arnold. He's the kind of man who is always smiling and is always joyful. He's also a brilliant scholar.
The Bible Backgrounds Commentary is exactly that: rather than approaching a Book of the Bible from either a strictly theological or strictly historical perspective, it attempts to provide insight into meaning by ...

Memoirs of a Lincoln Conspirator 2 reviews Samuel Bland Arnold
Heritage Books, 1997
Memoirs of a Lincoln Conspirator Samuel Bland Arnold was the only one of the convicted conspirators in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln to later write his memoirs. Mr. Kauffman has done an excellent job of editing in this fascinating account of Arnold's time in the prison at Fort Jefferson.

Atlas of Neurosurgical Techniques: Spine and Peripheral Nerves 1 review Richard Fessler, Arnold Menezes, ...
Thieme New York, 2006
Excellent neurosurgical atlas Much like it's brain counterpart, this is an excellent atlas. It is arranged logically and the pictures are excellent (and in color). It outdoes many other atlases in how up-to-date and expansive it is. The text is "to the point". I have found these books to be the best at preparing the night before a major case. All critical steps are reviewed and well-elucidated through illustration.

Against the fall of night 1 review Michael Arnold
Doubleday, 1975
Entertaining, informative, and engrossing I found this book to be excellent in its descriptions of life and times in the aristocratic circles of the Comneni. I believe that the the writer shows a keen grasp of life and customs. I relished being treated to an entertaining and engrossing book about what today would pass as an obscure dynasty in a far away time and place. Recommend it highly for any interested in Byzantine culture ...

The Jewish Holidays: A Guide and Commentary 8 reviews Michael Strassfeld, Arnold M. Eisen
HarperCollins Publishers, 1986
Our standard Bar/Bat Mitzvah Gift This is our standard Bar and Bat Mitzvah gift, which has come in handy this year since one of our children is at the age where there is a simcha every weekend. It is accessible for the kids at this age, and will offer more as they keep it on the bookshelf for adulthood. The production values are nice, and the whole thing neither looks nor sounds (in tone) "too heavy," though in fact the book is ...

Matthew (Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary) 4 reviews Michael J. Wilkins
Zondervan, 2007
Excellent....for its niche Based on the other review here, I feel compelled to offer (1) some comments on this installement in the NIV series, (2) and on the nature of the NIV series itself.
This commentary is excellent for its intended purpose. None of the commentaries in the NIV Application Commentary (NIVAC) Series is intended to be a bastion of exegetical detail. The NIVAC was intended to fill a gap in the ...

Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary Set 6 reviews
Zondervan, 2002
A handy reference that is easy to use All four books are hardcover and smith bound, measuring 8" x10". The set is a background commentary for the New Testament and includes many, many color pictures, maps, and charts (on every page there is something). Further the set is littered with interesting sidebars which are set as text boxes in the margins or as boxes set within the text. The set is written from an evangelical perspective. ...

The World Must Know: The History of the Holocaust As Told in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum 9 reviews Photographer, Michael Berenbaum
Little Brown & Co (T), 1993
An outstanding memorial propelling its images beyond museum walls Why the need for a second edition of a classic Jewish studies survey of images from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC? Because with each decade that passes it becomes more important to preserve the images and realities of World War II events for future generations - and because THE WORLD MUST KNOW is an outstandingly well organized gathering of hard-hitting images from the ...

Yom Kippur Machzor: With Commentary Adapted From the Teachings of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik (Nusach ... 1 review
K'hal Publishing, 2006
To davvan with and learn from the Rav on the holiest day of the year I saw this Machzor at the house of my chavruta and was able to look into it for a few minutes. I came across in an instant a small comment which made me wish I owned the Machzor and could study it carefully. It related to the Rav's description of Kedushah. The Rav in this brief note spoke of the 'Kadosh' as that separated and distant from us, that which transcends us.
This little hint made me ...

Very good reference I liked the depth of examples in this book. Where the O'Reilly book "Learning GNU Emacs" gave an excellent introduction and overview, this book gave more involved examples. For example in the regexp-search-replace, this book showed the use of \( and \) for grouping and \1 \2 \3 for where to place the each group in the replacement string. If your are new to Emacs, get the O'Reilly book; then ...
