Great Prayer Book
This is a small prayer book full of big-time punch. I always find it hard to review prayer books. Either you like them or you don't, which is like most books, but unlike fiction or theology it is a much more personal reaction. That being said, this is a great book. I wish there were a hard cover edition so it could take more of a beating. Michael Dubrueil does an amazing job in just over 350 ...

A great little book!
This little book is a very good guide for confession. It's quite thorough and is completely orthodox. I purchased several of these for my RCIA candidates who have found them to be very helpful.

A Man Who Put's His Life Where His Faith Is
On January 11, 2004, a car in Orlando, Florida struck Father Benedict Groeschel and nearly took his life. I heard about the accident on the morning of January 12th when I arrived for work. News about Father's condition was slow in coming that morning and like countless others who were shocked by the news that day, I did what I knew Father Benedict would want me to do- I prayed. Later that same ...

How This Book Came to Be
The genesis of this book was inspired by a set of talks that Father Benedict J. Groeschel C.F.R., gave several years ago in the Diocese of Manchester, NH. At the time while researching material for a project I was working on I came across an advertisement for the talks and found both the title and topic striking. The topic seemed to fit Father Benedict's lifetime of working among the poor and ...

A Pocket Guide to the Mass

Guide to the essentials
Like his popular "How-to Book of the Mass," Michael Dubruiel's "Pocket Guide" is a useful explanation of what the Mass "is," i.e., its essence, and how it is celebrated. Along the way, he describes the Mass' Scriptural content, prayers, and history. The uniqueness of Catholic worship, especially its liturgical postures and practices, is also addressed. Dubruiel's book would make a terrific ...

A good book for those who practice lectio
What a FUN book...but also a useful one. A fond introduction by the editor (a former student of the Archabbot's) leads you into pithy latin expressions which are then translated and followed by a light (very light but still insightful) meditation, and Reilly writes with a humble yet amusing style. This is an extremely useful for those of us who practice lectio divina and who might be having ...

A concise and well-written overview of the Mass
I converted to Catholicism 4 years ago and still found many things clarified and/or pointed out in this book. It is well done and I highly recommend. In fact, I've shared with our Deacon and RCIA director for their use.

My privilege
I had the great privilege of seeing Fulton Sheen's television show the first time around. I was just a child, but the man with the twinkling eyes and beetle brows spoke to me as well as to my parents. His warmth, kindness, holiness and humor absolutely radiated. We are fortunate that the author and editor of this book took the time to save these wonderful and holy thoughts of a wonderful and ...

The Eucharist and its Place in Our Lives
When attending Mass it is very easy to get distracted and I am as guilty of this as anyone. My mind sometimes wanders off to things that I need to get accomplished at home or to some disruption that might be going on in my family. Also competing with the Mass for my attention are things right there in the Church as I think about that sour note that the organist just hit, the word that a Lector ...

Why I wrote this Lenten Devotional
When I was in my twenties I encountered another woman, also in her twenties who was dying of cancer. Over the course of a summer she taught me the lesson of the power of the cross...that no matter what life deals us there is a way for those who believe in Christ to approach every event in a way that differs from the rest of humanity. We are not crushed by adversity, in fact we learn not to even ...

Excellent communal version of the Way of the Cross
The Biblical Way of the Cross uses the modern Biblical stations. It is designed for a communal celebration with three roles: Leader, Lector and People; it uses the traditional gestures of kneeling and standing. At each station, the leader announces the station, there is a short responsory, the lector reads a Scripture passage related to the station, a prayer divided between the leader and ...
