Whistleblower Law: A Guide to Legal Protections for Corporate Employees1 review
Stephen M. Kohn, Michael D. Kohn, ...

Praeger Publishers, 2004

It's a new world out there
This is an extremely well written, clear, and cautious overview of new federal protections for whistleblowers, because that's really what has happened since 2002. Do take note that it is really directed for employees in the private sector; if you are in a government job things may be somewhat different. Or very, very different depending on your location. It would be nice to learn more about ...

Wind, Water, Rock and Sky: The Story of Cognashene, Georgian Bay1 review
Duggan Melhuish

Boston Mills Press, 1997

Local History at its BEST
The history of a local area and its people--any local area--is fascinating, and this is one of the better books dedicated to the telling of such a local history. It reads like an oral history, as though you've sat down with several grandmothers and listened to them recount "the way things used to be" when they were young. More groups (this is put out by a Georgian Bay cottagers' association) ...

Hybrid Systems V (Lecture Notes in Computer Science)1 review

Springer, 1999

Great synosis of hybrid systems
This book excellent for anyone interested in the complex and unique world of hybrid systems. Wolf Kohn is simply brilliant! Highly recommended. Many of the authors of this book are still pursuing careers in hybrid systems, most prominently with the Seattle-based company, Hynomics, which plans to go public soon.

The Rough Guide to Egypt 6 (Rough Guide Travel Guides)6 reviews
Dan Richardson, Daniel Jacobs, ...

Rough Guides, 2005

Saves money big time
I went to Egypt in February 2006 with my wife and our two boys (5 and 2.5 years). Although we took a package tour to Hurghada, we actually overnighted there only three nights of the eleven we were in Egypt. The rest we spent moving around (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, busses, train, cruise ship, jeep). For the whole trip we spent around 1000 USD plus the package. We could have easily spent twice as ...

Dateline Mongolia: An American Journalist in Nomad's Land7 reviews
Michael Kohn

RDR Books, 2006

A fascinating insight into a very different place
I was sent this book to read and started it in earnest, having not read much travel literature before. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Michael Kohn adopts a very conversational style to tell his story and each episode is told well. He illustrates all the people he met with such detail that by the end you feel you know them and I was heartened to read that he married one of his friends whom ...

Lonely Planet Central Asia11 reviews
Bradley Mayhew, Paul Clammer, ...

Lonely Planet Publications, 2004

Excellent guide to central asia
Once again Lonely Planet has done a very good job. This guide is the best introduction to the five Central Asian countries. I used it in Tajikistan recently and intend to use it again.

Lonely Planet Tibet12 reviews
Bradley Mayhew, Michael Kohn

Lonely Planet Publications, 2005

I went to Tibet
Last summer I went to Tibet with this book as a NGO officer. This book is very useful, but no information about dalily life of real Tibeatian. Acturally, in the downtown, there are few Tibetian people. There are only Hun people, majority ethnic group in China, who enjoy their prestages. On the other hands, Tibetian people live in the northen part with surveillance camera. Since some of them are ...

Nice kids book
A nice book for girls who like horses. Fun to read and has a moral story - hard to find in modern books.

Moshe Safdie2 reviews
Peter Rowe, Witold Rybczynski, ...

Academy Editions, 1996

An amazing talent, Safdie
I recently returned from a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, and was enchanted by the magnificent Vancouver Public Library, designed by this most brilliant architect. Since I had also been captivated by his work on the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, I just had to have this book filled with gorgeous photographs and fascinating descriptions of Mr. Safdie's work all over the globe. ...

Israel & the Palestinian Territories (Country Guide)12 reviews
Michael Kohn

Lonely Planet, 2007

If you're interested in hitting the main attractions as well as some off the beaten path suggestions, this is the guide for you!
This is the second Lonely Planet guide that I have used and am pleased to report that I was not disappointed. This guide offered a perfect blend of history, culture, and touristy tid-bits. While I only used the Jerusalem and West Bank sections, this book is great for traveling anywhere in the area. Often traveling to interesting places, at least for me, leads to prioritizing the 'must-sees' ...

Colombia (Country Guide)19 reviews
Michael Kohn, Robert Landon

Lonely Planet, 2006

best of only bad choices
just got back from colombia. i brought the Bradt guide and my friend brough the lonely planet. the Bradt is horrendous. both are weak, but the LP is by far the better of the two. the most important thing about a guide, in a place like colombia is safety. the LP recommendeds hotels in the area by the cathedral in medellin. no one happened to go there or check with the police, quite obviously, ...

Mongolia (Country Guide)21 reviews
Michael Kohn

Lonely Planet, 2005

Excellent
In the past year I have spent six months in rural Mongolia. There is not much choice of guidebooks in English and we are fortunate that Lonely Planet has put out a small book that nevertheless conveys an awful lot of really good information. My copy was in constant use. On my visits to Ulaan Baatar I found the guide to be indispensable. Practically everything worth visiting was listed and ...

Lao-Tzu and the Tao-Te-Ching1 review

State University of New York Press, 1998

Great for sholars, ok for the layman
The book consists of several essays written by scholars of Taoism and related subjects. If you are a sinologist or are looking for a scholarly approach to Taoism then this is an interesting book. If you are more interested in learning more about Taoism as a religion and/or philosophy (as opposed to text analysis and interpretation, etc.)then there are other books that provide better value.
