Another excellent, suspenseful page-turner !
Dr. Eric Najarian is a rising star at White Memorial Hospital. He and a colleague are vying for a big promotion, when suddenly Eric is approached to join a secret society ("Caduceus") as long as he is willing to perform an "unusual" treatment when asked. Pressures of the job and life in general weigh on Eric as he debates what to do. Soon, some missing bodies and other unexplained phenomenon ...

"...the powers and duties of his office"
There is so much of interest in the field of medicine that it seems a shame to use an obscure element in a medical thriller. Nanotechnology (I don't think that's a spoiler) is on the sensational end of medicine: real but not in our everyday medical lexicon. Yet Michael Palmer used it as his "hook" in The First Patient, and used it effectively. Palmer's smooth style brought me straight into the ...

pleasantly surprised
This is my first read by Michael Palmer and he's got my attention. I really enjoyed his style and tempo. He's a very talented writer even if he is an actual Dr. in disguise. I'm a big fan now and i intend to read all his medical thrillers.

Great Twist at the End
I listened to this book, so I couldn't sneak a peek at the ending. This was a good thing. I did guess the main twist very early in the story, however I only guessed part of the final twist. I recommend this book. It is the usual Michael Palmer story - lots of techy medical talk, a couple a crazy chase scenes and a good and satisfying ending (at least all the ones I have read). Lots of action ...

There is no place on the earth like my Provence!
I am French and was born in Provence, so I have spent most of my days there, except when I travel and when I was modeling in the world of high fashion. I know every village, and I fly my plane over Provence many, many times. I bought this book because it is so beautiful and shows the many wonderful places in my part of France. I am not good at taking the pictures, like these men do, and ...

"Honey. I ain't feelin' good. Think I'll take some Omnivax."
The medical thriller probably begins as far back as Upton Sinclair taking on the greedy, amoral manufacturers, but it certainly was refined by Crichton and then the offshoot, one could argue, might be Kellerman, Robin Cook and even Jeffrey Deaver to some extent. But clearly, no one does it better than Michael Palmer. Matt Rutledge returns to West Virginia to practice medicine, recollecting the ...

Difficult to Put Down
This is a scary sort of thriller because it is the thing that could happen. We hear about people being kidnapped and their body parts stolen. What if someone specifically targeted you because they know you are a match for someone else? The author brings a very realistic approach to this frightening thought and uses three main characters to battle the bad guys. There is Natalie, the former ...

Excellent medical thriller
I just discovered Michael Palmer's work, and I'm hurrying to remedy that deficiency. Dr. Palmer writes tightly plotted medical fiction that holds the reader in suspense and keeps them off-balance with new twists and turns. This book kept me reading, because there were few, if any, spots where I could say, "I'll put the book down and read some more later." It's a true page-turner, in every sense ...

These books get out of date quickly
This really isn't a BAD book. I guess the reason I didn't like it so much is that it doesn't include the best information on the newest Windows OSs or the newst networking protocols. Yes, Vista is mentioned and described in brief, but I'd say there was more (and better) information on MAC OS than there was on Vista. And there's virtually no information on the new wireless Draft N standard. ...

Engaging Medical Thriller
It's been a while since I've read any Michael Palmer, only reading a few of his books occasionally. But, I was pleased I picked up this book and enjoyed most of the story in contained. Engaging is one word that sums it up. By that I mean, you cared about the characters, and you couldn't wait to know how it would end. The book begins with a young boy who is having flashbacks from his hernia ...

Good story, BUT....
I really have enjoyed all of Michael Palmer's books, but I'm shocked that an actual physician like Palmer would be pushing socialized medicine in a fiction novel. Quite obviously Palmer is thrilled with Great Britain and Canada's government health care and doesn't know of the massive problems for patients trying to get timely care, nor does he realize the cost to the citizens of these countries. ...

I've read all of his books except "Patient"
Yes - his books seem to following the typical formula/recipe for medical mystery thriller - BUT, each of the eight paperbacks of his books I finished in record time and couldn't get enough of them! After reading the first one "Silent Treatment" I ordered the other seven to read too! Yes, I too am fairly good at guessing the next "thing" that will occur in mystery books that I read - but I am ...

This book has truly opened up my mind
Alduos Huxley is a brilliant man. This book has made me think about things in a whole new way. I love the letters he writes. The book is divided into 40 chapters. I read it slowly, a chapter or two at a time over a period of a few months. It wasn't one of those books you, like his novels, that you'd want to read in a week or a day. It is something you want to read and then think about it for a ...
