Reversible Monuments
Susan Jill Levine, Geoff Hargreaves, ...

Copper Canyon Press, 2002

Not since 1959 when Octavio Paz and Samuel Beckett published An Anthology of Mexican Poetry, has there been a collection which so thoroughly examines the poetry of the country known for being "too far from God and too close to the United States." Yet, as Elliott Weinberger writes in his introduction, "Americans know everything about God, but next to nothing about Mexico-few know that Mexico-particularly when compared to the United States-is ...

Prentice Hall, 1974

Misleading title:NOTHING to do w/ ENGINEERING thermo or apps
Prentice Hall, a more or less new member of the world-wide Pearson Education Group, offers countless texts on thermodynamics at their prenhallDOTcom site. At least five of them feature in the series labelled 'Prentice Hall International Series in the Physical and Chemical Engineering Sciences': BalzhiserSamuelsElliassen1; ElliottLira1; Kyle3; PrausnitzLichtenthalerAzevedo3; TesterModell3. ...

Fortran 90/95 Explained6 reviews
Michael Metcalf, John K. Reid

Oxford University Press, USA, 1999

Essential reference book
There are two types of essential books to be on your bookshelves. Books to learn from and books to reference. This book is the essential reference. Once you learn Fortran, this is the book to turn to when you need to know the details of the language. I find myself using this book over and over again for my research project. It's short, concise, absolutely accurate and complete, making it ...

Myanmar (Burma) (Country Guide)9 reviews
Robert Reid, Michael Grosberg

Lonely Planet, 2005

Best Guide for Visiting Burma/Myanmar
There is no other guide which comes close to being as useful for visiting Burma, either as a first-time tourist or an veteran traveller. Its overall descriptions, information on transport, reviews of hotels etc are all generally reliable and up-to-date. The accounts of restarants in Rangoon however is probably somewhat dated, as the restaurant scene in Rangoon changes quickly and there are many ...

Forgotten Continent: The Battle for Latin America's Soul7 reviews
Michael Reid

Yale University Press, 2008

An Indispensable Guide to the Latin America of the 21st Century
Mr. Reid, a writer for The Economist magazine, arguably the best magazine in the world, delivers us an extremely concise, well-written book on a region that America turned its back on after fostering democratic reforms in the 80's, but one which has now been cast to the forefront of world affairs due in large part to the huge commodities boom, the flood of investment into their capital markets, ...

Fortran 95/2003 Explained (Numerical Mathematics and Scientific Computation)6 reviews
Michael Metcalf, John Reid, ...

Oxford University Press, USA, 2004

the best on the subject
This book is the best on the subject of Fortran 95/2003, but there's not a lot of competition. It has a specific target audience: practicing computer professionals. Don't pick it up if you are not already familiar with object-oriented programming, derived data types, pointers, etc. This is not the book from which to learn those concepts. It's a pity that there does not exist a book to ...

The Way Of The Warrior2 reviews
Howard Reid, Michael Croucher

Overlook TP, 2004

great "documentary" overview of the martial arts
I would have liked to see the BBC documentary this was apparently based on. It consists of a nice historical overview of martial arts history in general, a review of some of the Indian martial arts (which are too little studied, IMO), Chinese martial arts, a very obscure and beautiful Japanese sword art (Katori Shinto Ryu), Karate and modern Japanese martial arts. There are excellent photos and ...

The Fighting Arts: Great Masters of the Martial Arts3 reviews
Howard Reid, Michael Croucher

Simon & Schuster, 1998

Invaluable reference material
Not really a book but rather a no nonsense reference of mostly BJJ techniques (typically demonstrated JKD style with T-shirts and wresstling boots). Techniques are numerous, more than any other. Basically a big ring binder. I find it usefully to fill in the areas which I haven't been able to cover with my instructor until I get there. In other words, it gives you the theory and when you get the ...

Professional SQL Server 2000 XML4 reviews
Paul J. Burke, Sam Ferguson, ...

Wrox Press, 2001

No other book covers SQL XML features like this one does
I looked at two other SQL Server 2000 XML books, but found this one to be the best - covering almost everything on SQL Server 2000 XML. Very well written, nice examples help understand the technology better. The chapter on Updategrams is very useful. I wanted to learn updategrams and this chapter covers it nicely to get started using them in production.

Handbook of Food Analytical Chemistry, Pigments, Colorants, Flavors, Texture, and Bioactive Food Components1 review

Very good book
I use this book for my class. It is a very good book. The methodology of each analysis is well explained, easy to follow. I strongly recommend this book if you are looking for methods of analyses.

Lightning in a Bottle3 reviews
David Minter, Michael Reid

Sourcebooks, Inc., 2007

Great ideas in a Short Read!
I had the privilege of working with David Minter at Blockbuster in the glory years. As he shows in this book, the management team under Huizenga was in `the zone' so-to-speak. It was a great time, and Minter and Reid point out why Blockbuster had that success, and how other entrepreneurs can as well. Highly recommend reading this more than once!

The Kingfisher Treasury of Pet Stories (The Kingfisher Treasury of Stories)1 review
Michael Reid, Suzanne Carnell

Kingfisher, 2003

Mother of pet lover
As a mother of a seven year old pet lover, this book was a great purchase. My son is dyslexic, so reading is tough for him, therefore, it is important to find reading material that interests him. Some of the stories he can read on his own, and some I read to him. Great book for cuddle/bed time! The more humorous stories such as Fudge by Judy Blume make falling asleep much more pleasant.
