Hellboy Volume 8: Darkness Calls (Hellboy (Graphic Novels)) (Hellboy (Graphic Novels))2 reviews
Mike Mignola, Duncan Fegredo, ...

Dark Horse Comics, 2008

Good Hellboy, Kick some A
This is not only a great story, but it also has amazing art. The artist who worked on this book did an amazing job that definitely impressed me. Being a fan of Mike's art work, I can sometimes me skeptical of other people that pick up the torch and illustrate his books. The art is amazing and I recommend it to any fan of Hellboy.

Dark Horse, 2008

Big, giant, glorious HELLBOY! (volume one)
This first volume of HELLBOY LIBRARY EDITIONS is a welcome addition to any serious comic reader's collection. Hellboy Volume 7: The Troll Witch and Other Stories7 reviews
Mike Mignola

Dark Horse, 2007

great
Another great addition to the Hellboy canon. I love how Mignola takes these obscure tales of folklore and incorporates them into the Hellboy universe.

Backup
Jim Butcher

Subterranean, 2008

Let's get something clear right up front. I'm not Harry Dresden. Harry's a wizard. A genuine, honest-to-goodness wizard. He's Gandalf on crack and an IV of Red Bull, with a big leather coat and a .44 revolver in his pocket. He'll spit in the eye of gods and demons alike if he thinks it needs to be done, and to hell with the consequences--and yet somehow my little brother manages to remain a decent human being. I'll be damned if I know how. ...

Seed of Destruction (Hellboy, Book 1)34 reviews
Mike Mignola, John Byrne

Dark Horse Comics, 1994

fantastic
I just got back into comics recently and I can't tell you how wonderful it was to get this book. As I've noted elsewhere, Mignola's plotting and art is just phenomenal. One of the reasons I love Hellboy is because I love the old Hammer horror movies from the 60s and 70s (Horror of Dracula), the Corman "Poe/Lovecraft" movies from the same time like The Haunted Palace / The Tower of London or The ...

Hellboy: The Chained Coffin and Others13 reviews

Dark Horse, 1998

Great collection of Hellboy illustrated short stories
Mike Mignola's first compilation graphic shorts is titled The Chained Coffin and Others. The stories within were compiled from sources such as the Dark Horse Presents comic issues all the way to promotional issue of the comic catalogue Diamond Comics. The one difference between those issues and this compilation was the coloring. The illustrated shorts where in black and white when they first ...

Conan Vol. 4: The Hall of the Dead and Other Stories7 reviews
Kurt Busiek

Dark Horse, 2007

UNFINISHED HOWARD TALE
Robert E. Howard wrote a number of fantastic Conan stories in his lifetime but The Hall of the Dead was not one of them. Not that The Hall of the Dead isn't fantastic, but rather Howard didn't write it, at least not in full. Years after his suicide in 1936, numerous Howard material was found, which included a number of unpublished stories as well as various fragments and outlines for other ...

Hellboy Volume 4: The Right Hand of Doom7 reviews
Mike Mignola

Dark Horse, 2004

A grand short story collection
"Hellboy: The Right Hand of Doom" is Hellboy at its finest. Like HP Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, it is in the short story that Mignola really shines with his hell-born characters. This short story collection contains a host of odd and enjoyable adventures for Anung Un Rama, otherwise known as Hellboy. Making his way through the mythologies and folklore of several countries, he encounters ...

marvelous
Hellboy is just light-years ahead of almost every other comic I've ever read. The plotting and dialogue is almost literary and the art is just fantastic.

B.P.R.D. Volume 1: Hollow Earth & Other Stories11 reviews
Mike Mignola, Tom Sniegoski, ...

Dark Horse, 2003

A Solid Outing for Hollow Earth
B.P.R.D. stands for the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, a secret U.S. agency that protects the world from supernatural threats. It is a spin-off title from Mike Magnolia's popular Hellboy comic book series, and details the adventures of the agency's other "special" operatives. The team includes Abe Sapien, a blue-skinned gill-man with a mysterious past; Liz Sherman, a neurotic ...

B.P.R.D. Volume 7: Garden of Souls (B.P.R.D. (Graphic Novels))1 review
John Arcudi, Guy Davis, ...

Dark Horse, 2008

The orgin of Abe Sapien is told
This is another really good (honestly probably not great) installment of the BRPD series by regulars Mignola, Arcudi and amazing artist Guy Davis. This one tells the back story to Abe's origin and offers a slightly silly new tale that ties into it. I say "silly" because it is a little bit absurd but thats not to say it isn't charming or well done because its both. The art is absolutely amazing by ...

Hellboy Volume 5: Conqueror Worm5 reviews
Mike Mignola

Dark Horse, 2004

The worm crawls in...
The last collection(for now..sigh) ends with a big bang as Mike Mignola continues to delve into the history of those pesky nazis. As Indiana Jones would say,I hate those guys! Just as Steven Spielberg understands and honors all those pulp stories in his Indiana Jones movies(along with another guy who understands the pulps, George Lucas) Mr. Mignola brings out Lobster Johnson! to combat the Nazi ...

Hellboy Volume 6 : Strange Places9 reviews
Mike Mignola

Dark Horse, 2006

Read all of them, then read them again
I love the drawings, the characters and the storyline. And even more the questions it brings. Soul, evil, love, destiny, God, "Why am I here?" It isn't a distraction from the most important things in my life, its a chance to see them through another lens.
