Mo Willems

Hyperion Book CH, 2007

Favorite New Book.
I am 27 years old, have 0 children, 1 Master's degree in Speech Communication, and love to read books by Mo Willems. I find his books to be inspiring, philosophical, witty, interesting and visually enthralling. This is my current favorite book, although it's hard to claim a favorite when you know that with Willems- the best is yet to come!

Book Review: I Will Surprise My Friend
Scaring people is fun. There is really no getting around this fact. Kids know this better than anyone. Mo Willems knows that kids know this better than anyone. And now he's gone and written a book about it. Fitting right in with previous "Elephant & Piggie" titles, "I Will Surprise My Friend" provides a situation kids will relate to, presented with playfulness, wit, and an ace sense of humor. ...

There Is a Bird On Your Head! (Elephant and Piggie)13 reviews

Hyperion, 2007

Great book for daughter and mom
I bought this book based on the reviews of others. My daughter is 1½ and since we live abroad, I am trying to encourage her English skills and the book sounded funny. She loves this book and can now count to three and say "hatching", although I am not quite sure how handy THAT word comes in...:-) The book is always read at least three times and I enjoy it as much as she does - I can highly ...

The Pigeon Wants a Puppy
This was our first Mo Willems book and my great grandchildren loved it! Funny, well drawn, and contains a great lesson, too. We'll be adding to our Mo Willems library.

My Friend is Sad (An Elephant and Piggie Book) (Elephant and Piggie)10 reviews
Mo Willems

Hyperion Book CH, 2007

Elephant Gets His Groove Back
Mo Willems is a master illustrator and storyteller. He's also somewhat of an illusionist. I'll explain. Out of the simplest elements: Just two characters, a minimal plot, a few words per page, and uncluttered illustrations that must average over 80% "white space" (i.e., the un-illustrated parts of the page), Willems constructs amazingly rich scenes that surprise us with their enormous humor, ...

You Can Never Find a Rickshaw When It Monsoons - The World on One Cartoon a Day5 reviews

Hyperion, 2006

One guy named Mo
When you think about it, picture book author/illustrators by and large do not suddenly come out with thick memoir-like tomes. Not even Maurice Sendak has done it. It just isn't done. So when I found myself hefting Mo Willems's handsome 396-some encapsulation of his time spent traveling around the world in 1990, I didn't quite know what to make of the idea. Willems is cute as a button and he ...

Funny, funny, funny!
Mo Willems's Pigeon Series are hilarious. I laughed. My eighteen-month old didn't get it. He will. Especially loved Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog.

I Am Invited to a Party! (An Elephant and Piggie Book) (Elephant and Piggie)9 reviews
Mo Willems

Hyperion Book CH, 2007

Funny and fun to read
I bought this for my daughter, who was on the verge of reading. She loved the story, and through the repetition in the dialogue, learned the words. This was the first book she read to me all the way through. And even adults can appreciate the humor and drawings.

Dial, 2006

To Give 14 Illustrators the Opportunity to Share Some Fun!
An inspired idea: Get 14 leading kids' book illustratos to write the illustrate their punch line to the old chestnut of a riddle "Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road." It's like a series of knock-knock jokes: Rapid-fire visual and written humor that proceeds in wonderfully silly fashion, even if a few are not quite as clever as the others. The 14 2-page spreads are like a narrow window into ...

Love it!
My 3 year old is bilingual and insists I read this book over and over...both in english and spanish! The pictures are great...we also love the pidgeon books! They're so funny and true to life.... helps me remember I'm not the only parent who will probably never qualify for parent of the year!

Time to Pee!19 reviews

Walker Books Ltd, 2006

Amazing!!
We have been struggeling with our 3 1/2yo daughter to get her potty trained. I read the reviews on this book and was quite impressed by the other mother's comments so I said "what the heck". AND for the price I could not beat it. Received the book in a timely fashion. The description of the books condition was very accurate. I would use this seller again. I was not to impressed with the book BUT ...

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus191 reviews
Mo Willems

Walker Books Ltd, 2004

For all the family
I came across this book when my wife found it on the shelf in a local bookshop. She read it and encouraged our son to stop dancing around the bookstands and concentrate and read it. Although he prefers video games he loved it. When I met up with them, he was so enthusiastic that he persuaded me to read it. My daughter then loved it when she had stopped looking at 'her favourite ...

Pigeon Finds a Hotdog!1 review
Mo Willems

Walker Books, 2006

Great read aloud
As an elementary library media specialist I am always looking for quick good read alouds, and Mo Willems' pigeon books are tops of the list for pre-k through 3rd grade. I admit to being a bit of a ham and using voices, and the kids roll with laughter and shout out NO when the pigeon pleads to drive. They particularly like the nasal duckling voice I use with the hotdog book (think Steve Erkel).

Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late46 reviews

Hyperion, 2006

All the excuses kids can think of...
Mo Williems catches all the excuses kids can think of to avoid sleep. My 3 year old daughters typical excuses are 'I need a glass of water', 'I'm not sleepy at ALL' rubbing her eyes, even 'I have to clean the house'(taking a hint from my wife who has a habit of cleaning while I put the kids to bed.) This book is hilarious because you can totally relate. I love how with each turning of the ...

We read this every night!
My 2.5 year old daughter received this book as a gift and we have never read the first one. The story is wonderful, funny and cute and the illustrations are a very creative mix with real photography. My daughter has this book memorized now and reads it to me which is priceless. I'm getting her the first one for her 3rd birthday and I'm sure it will be a great addition to our home library.

I Love My New Toy! (An Elephant and Piggie Book) (Elephant and Piggie)1 review

Hyperion Book CH, 2008

great early reader series
My son loves the whole Elephant & Piggie series. In fact, these books are what taught him to read at age 4. They are repetitive and use short, easy words. Plus, they are hilarious. My son wants to read them each night. "I Love My New Toy" was just as funny as the rest of the ones we have. Mo Willems is the best children's author out there, in my opinion. We have all of his books, and they get ...
