Look Inside Cross-Sections Space 1 review Moira Butterfield
Bt Bound, 1999
Lots of detail on 12 different spacecraft As with other DK books in the "cross-section" series, the illustrations are drawn with parts missing so we can peer inside and see what is going on. Twelve spacecraft are featured. Lots of detail and tidbits of information are learned. My 3 year-old son is into a space phase and he sits absorbed looking at this book for up to an hour. A wonderful book to keep in the car so the child can look at ...

The Christmas Star 1 review Moira Butterfield
Tyndale House Pub, 2000
A Christmas classic for young children I recently purchased this picture book in paperback and I love it so much that I am going to buy it in hardcover. The "soft sculpture" pictures are exquisite and truly help to make this book magical with the turn of every page. A wonderful retelling of the classic Christmas story told in language that young children understand. I read this book to my own children and my Sunday School class and ...

Creative Crafts (Art for Children (Unnumbered Booksales)) 1 review Moira Butterfield
Book Sales, 1995
Wonderful Crafts for the Whole Family This large, easy to read book is full of wonderful creative crafts to keep the kids busy while stuck inside during snowy or rainy days. I would not recommend a 3-year-old try to do any of these themselves but if a parent, grandparent, or babysitter wants to do some planning ahead, this is a great guide to having fun and creating something beautiful!!!! Good pictures and clear instructions here.

Jets 1 review Moira Butterfield, Hans Jenssen
Scholastic, 1996
Surprisingly fun for kids of all ages! I found this book to be too full of information to be a comfortable bedtime book, but my four year old son didn't seem to mind my skipping the words and just ooh-ing and aah-ing over the illustrations with him. My son also preferred my reading of it over his father's, because dad would get so absorbed in each page that he would forget to turn the pages! My son especially loved being able to ...

Peek-a-boo! (Lift-The-Flap Book (Scholastic)) 3 reviews Moira Butterfield
Cartwheel Books, 2007
Teaches Hide and seek This is such a good book, and initially I thought it looked to short. My daughter loved it at age 2. She quickly caught on that someone was (sort of) hiding. She's 3 now and still enjoys it. It's nice quick bedtime book.

A superbly designed and presented science book. On The Spot: Volcanoes employs see-through windows and interactive features like pop-ups and flaps to show the young reader the wonder and awesome power of an erupting volcano. This superbly designed and presented science book is ideal for young readers ages 6 to 8. The Usborne Book of Science Activities, Vol. 2 (Science Activities) 2 reviews Helen Edom, Moira Butterfield, ...
E.D.C. Publishing, 1993
Science is Fun! We homeschool and I was looking for hands-on science activities to make the subject come alive in a more meaningful way than just reading a textbook. There are three volumes in this set and so far we have worked our way through two of them. Overall the information is interesting, the activities are fun, the format is easy to use. For younger kids preschool to about first grade they can follow ...

Key Quest (Mystery Solvers) 1 review Moira Butterfield, 2008
Excellent A great, fun book to pass time (we took it on vacation). The magnifying glass in the book is especially fun. Each page has two activities - finding objects and following directions to a clue. Interesting illustrations.

1000 Facts About Wild Animals 1 review Moira Butterfield
Scholastic Inc
A GOOD WORK TO HAVE AROUND THE CLASS ROOM This one has been out for some time now but is no worse for the wear. This is one of those books that is great to have setting on the shelf in the class room, or at home. It consists pretty much of what the title indicates, i.e. 1000 facts about the critters that live on this world with us. The illustrations are great and the text is quite readable. The younger kids are fascinated with it and ...

Look Inside Bulldozer Cross-Sections 1 review Moira Butterfield
DK CHILDREN, 1995
Not Just Bulldozers My three-year-old son is fascinated by earth moving equipment. He wants to know EVERYTHING about how they work and what they do. This book does not disappoint. It's heavily detailed, and extremely informative about all sorts of equipment (not just bulldozers). I found that taking a cross-section out of a ship we built from legos helped him understand what was happening in the pictures better. The ...

How to Draw Machines 2 reviews Moira Butterfield, Anita Ganeri, ...
Usborne Publishing Ltd, 1987
Very little "how-to"; goofy examples At a skimpy 32 pages (30 with actual content), I wasn't expecting much. I hoped for some hints my younger brother might find useful when drawing. Unfortunately, the book presents virtually no useful tips. The bulk of it consists of suggestions of *what* to draw, all of which are insulting to kids who are serious about either machines or drawing. The illustrations throughout are appropriate for ...

Let's Go Potty 3 reviews Moira Butterfield
Barron's Educational Series, 2000
Pop-Up Potty Book is Positively Fun ?Pop-Up Potty Book is Positively Fun? Surprise! Sam?s got a present?hence starts another contribution to the highly-populated potty book market. Out of three activity potty books we have found (see also Sara?s Potty by Harriet Ziefert and What Do You Do With A Potty? by Marianne Borgardt) I thought this one a winner. The text combines common elements found in other books, such as using the ...

Polar Bear and the Rainbow (Glitter Books) 1 review Moira Butterfield
Paragon Publishing, 2006
A Disturbing Children's Story I was shocked when I read this book because the underlying story is that you want to be "white" just like your family. It reverberates with the message that "white" is good. I guess the writer doesn't realize that diversity is important, and it's okay to be different. Our family was made through adoption, and we have family members of different races. This would not be a book for our family or ...
