Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Pomegranate

Pomegranate, 2008

Quality
This calendar is so beautiful with colorful and vivid pic's, sturdy thick pages and it's a hardback so it'll last all year. It was a gift and I was thrilled with the high quality, she probably thought I paid over 20 or even over thirty for this beautiful calendar, FULL OF PICTURES too, not just one on the front or one for each month, all colorful and detailed.

Art of the Japanese Postcard: 30 Art Nouveau Postcards3 reviews

Chronicle Books, 2006

Too nice to send!
Wow...I have to agree with the last reviewer! These cards are simply lovely! I'm a postcard collector/swapper who regularly sends and receives postcards from all over the world. I bought this set to add to my "to send" collection, but I'm afraid most of these are going to wind up in MY collection instead! Very beautiful cards...you will not be disappointed.

A Baby Book for You (British Museum of Fine Arts)14 reviews
Boston Museum of Fine Arts

Bulfinch, 1996

Classic & Delightful
This book is completely charming. Not only are the illustrations and poems cute, but the format of the book is very versatile. We homebirth and don't do a lot od doctor's visits, and many baby memory books have several pages dedicated to these things. It means we would have to cross a lot out or have many empty pages. This book has a spiral binding inside the traditional binding, so it is ...

The Galveston That Was (Sara and John Lindsey Series in the Arts and Humanities, No 5)4 reviews
Howard Barnstone

Texas A&M University Press, 1999

Beautiful photos; fascinating history
The city of Galveston, Texas was a vibrant, prosperous port at the start of the 20th century, outstripping even New Orleans. Fine Victorian homes were built by prosperous merchants, many in grand style. The deadly hurricane of 1900 dealt the city a blow from which it never entirely recovered. But Galveston's economic slump had a silver lining -- as shown in "The Galveston That Was." There ...

Hokusai 2009 Wall Calendar1 review

Pomegranate, 2008

Best of the best Japanese calendars
I buy this calendar for my husband each year as he spent several years in Japan and appreciates their culture. Hokusai is a wonderful artist and his prints come to life in this well done calendar. Each picture can be saved and framed like they do in Japan. Use one matt and a beautiful frame and change out the prints or group several of them. Look at the detail in the prints and appreciate the ...

Pharaohs of the Sun: Akhenaten : Nefertiti : Tutankhamen7 reviews

Bulfinch Press, 1999

review of Pharaohs of the Sun
An intriguing account of the life and rule of Akhenaten, one of the most controversial figures in Egyptian history. Akenaten, who is widely credited with being the world's first monotheist, rejected the well-established pantheon of gods and Egypt's capital to establish a new religious and government center at Aketaten, the "Horizon of the Aten." The authors attribute this to the fact that the ...

The Grandeur of Viceregal Mexico: Treasures from the Museo Franz Mayer1 review
Museo Franz Mayer, Houston Museum of Fine Arts

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 2002

A MAGNIFICENTLY ILLUSTRATED BILINGUAL VOLUME
For a considerable period of time the Mexican colonial period was viewed as a wasteland in the arts, a barren stretch awaiting the arrival of the Spaniards. Recent scholarship reveals that this was not the case. In fact, just the opposite was true as is showcased in this magnificently illustrated bilingual volume. Displayed between these pages are eye-popping decorative and fine arts from the ...

Van Gogh, Face to Face: The Portraits1 review
Joseph J. Rishel, Katherine Sachs, ...

Thames & Hudson, 2000

Portraiture: Vincent van Gogh's great love
From 2000-2001 this exhibition, devoted specifically to Van Gogh's portraits and self-portraits, will travel to Detroit, Boston and Philadelphia. This book is well written and provides graphics of superb quality. My only misgiving comes from the fact that seven different writers contributed to the commentary of the book which makes the flow of the text somewhat disjointed. While very well ...
