Flap Your Wings12 reviews
P.D. Eastman

Random House Value Publishing, 1990

Very cute book!
Boy, is this ever cute! when a little boy puts an alligator egg in the Birds' nest, they take care of it as if it was their own. They sit on it until it hatches then when he does, they feed it constantly! It's funny watching an alligator eating all that "bird food" and still grows huge. The end is particularly nice. They decide it's time for "Junior" to learn to fly but instead, he learns to ...

Go Dog Go85 reviews

Allô. Do you like my hat?
This is my favorite book of all time. I can't recommend it highly enough. If the "dog party in the trees" doesn't make you weep with joy, I don't know what will. For the last forty years or so, I have been looking -- and I mean this literally, not figuratively -- for said party. That's a bit cracked, I know, but I just can't help myself.

A great book -
My 7 year old son enjoys this book in Spanish - he is in a Spanish immersion class - learning Spanish all day in elementary school for the next 5 years. It's a great beginner reader book with fun pictures (and I'm learning Spanish, too, from it!)

Red, Stop! Green, Go!: An Interactive Book of Colors (Bright & Early Playtime Books)5 reviews
P.D. Eastman

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2004

Great interactive book
My 4 year old son loves this book. He has some speech delays and this book really got him talking! The interactive aspect of it is great. On one page the dogs jump off the board and goes under "water" which is like blue cellophane. So the white dog turns blue under water, the pink one turns purple, etc. The hat theme from the "Go, Dog, Go" book is also cute. There is a page where you turn ...

Perro Grande Eperro Pequeno/Big Dog Little Dog (Random House Picturebacks)1 review
P. D. Eastman

Topeka Bindery, 1999

Entertaining in both languages
This (Spanish) version includes the original English text as well, so if only one parent speaks Spanish (or English, for that matter), the other can still read it aloud with ease. The Spanish translation is excellent. My 18-month old daughter has been begging to hear this book daily for months!

Big dog ... little dog;: A bedtime story21 reviews

Memories
My son received this book on his third birthday - in 1977. My three year old grandson recently discovered the tattered and torn copy that I had saved. He immediately fell in love with it and proudly annouces that it is "Daddy's favorite book." I'm not sure which "boy" will be more excited when the new copy arrives but in the meantime it has brought back a flood of memories for this Grandma. What ...

Snow13 reviews
Roy McKie, P. D. Eastman

A family favourite along with summer
Two children, a boy and girl, experiment with the lovely things you can do with snow. It is in simply rhyming verse and is a great beginner book for children readers, the expectation of what words are to come are fairly obvious I especially love the simply drawn and coloured pictures. They are basic but rich. Each character is roundly appealing. We don't get snow where we live but my children ...

Big Dog Little Dog5 reviews
P. D. Eastman

Amer School Pub, 1986

Classic right along with Dr Seuss
Big Dog ... Little Dog was probably the first book I read on my own. 20 years ago my uncle read all of P D Eastman's stories to me and now I get to read these same stories to his children. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories just as wonderful. No child should grow up without hearing these stories just once. The only problem is that the stories can be so funny they don't really ...

Sam and Gus Light Up the Night! (Bright & Early Playtime Books)1 review
P.D. Eastman

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2004

One of the best children's books in our collection!
We have all of the "Bright and Early Playtime Books," and this one is by far one of the best! This version adds to the classic story by engaging the child in interactive play without losing any of the content that you'll remember from your own childhood! A must-have for every Random House Seuss-lover!

Sam and the Firefly18 reviews

My favorite artwork
I had this book as a child. It still has my favorite artwork of any of the children's books. The picture of the sleeping world, the hot dog stand, the approaching train with the truck stuck on the tracks are all etched in memory. Eastman was a formidable children's author. His illustrations for Go Dog Go! and A Fish Out of Water were both marvelous too. And the junked car in Are You My Mother ...

Good News for Concerned Parents
I am so sad that people are turned away from this book because of the dated depiction of guns... it is such a fabulous book that I remember from my childhood as one of my favorites, and I think you'll be relieved to know that I don't remember a single gun in the book. I'm sure you wouldn't want to force the concepts of arms into your child's mind, but it ISN'T related to the story, and it ...

Random House, 1982

Nice bilingual book for the price
Cute little story about a big dog and a little dog who like opposite things. It's pretty obvious that the Spanish was translated from English (as opposed to being originally written in Spanish), but with that said the Spanish seems well translated. Good book for the price.

Alphabet Book5 reviews

A whole curriculum for 3 bucks!
I picked this book up with no expectations at all. It ended up being the main book we have used all year to learn the alphabet. It's so great!!! The best thing about this book is that the alphabet runs down the side of each page so when you are on the "E" page for example you have the whole alphabet listed down the side of the page with E highlighted. I taught my daughter to run her fingers ...

An Absolute Favorite!!
This was one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books when I was little. I am 24 now and I still have my book (and yes its falling apart). I am keeping it to read to my kids someday. Cute story about a baby bird who goes looking for his mother who went out to get some food. He meets all sorts of things along the way and asks them all "Are you my mother?". I saw another review about this book saying that it ...

The Cat in the Hat Beginner Book Dictionary (Beginner Books(R))14 reviews

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1964

A very fun way for children to learn to read and to develop a love of reading
While all of the books with the Dr. Seuss label can be considered essential reading for children, this one is more essential than most of the others. In terms of books used to help children learn to read, I found it to be unequaled in value. I still have the copy my daughter read and it is worn to the point where the spine is falling apart. Not through misuse, but from being opened and the pages ...
