I've never read a Pat Conroy novel nor have I seen any of the adapted films. I stumbled across Beach Music in our shared library at work. Where some of the story was a bit "out there" (the Vietnam drama and the ensuing lockdown "courtroom" proceedings in particular), I found the book incredibly engrossing and completely enjoyable. This book was gorgeously written. The language was captivating and almost poetic. I couldn't put it down. The story was hilarious to gut-wretching, and everything in between.
