Real Ponies Don't Go Oink! 10 reviews Patrick F. McManus
Recorded Books, 2000
Laugh LOUD out loud Wow!!! This is the funniest book I have ever read. The way McManus writes is so unique, subtle humor along with out right hiariousness (if that's a word). Both men and women, country and city will enjoy this outdoor humor. I liked the fact that it was a bunch of short stories that you could read like a novel. It had the same main characters so you didn't have to always learn new people, ...

Rubber Legs and White Tail-Hairs 7 reviews Patrick F. McManus
Recorded Books, LLC, 2000
I'm the guy in "Outdoor Burnout". I am the guy Pat talks about at the beginning of "Outdoor Burnout" At the time I wrote to him I was sick of the outdoors and nature in general, Pat put it all into perspective for me. Now when I get fed up with bad weather, balky lanterns, leaky tents, and all the other hazards of the great outdoors, I stop and think, "Pat could make a great story out of this".

The Night the Bear Ate Goombaw 14 reviews Patrick F. McManus
Holt Paperbacks, 1990
The Night The Bear Ate Goombaw This book is hilarious. We like to read it to the middle and high school kids. You can hear them laughing about the fur coat, etc. outside the building. It has sparked many a boy into getting Partick's other books and reading for themselves. As a library director I know how hard it is to get middle and high school kids to read for pleasure. Patrick McManus is sure a pleasure. When I read the ...

Whatchagot Stew: A Memoir of an Idaho Childhood With Recipes and Commentaries 3 reviews Patricia McManus Gass
Henry Holt & Co (P), 1992
Funny book with real recipies The book is typical McManus humor interlaced with good, bad, and ugly recipes. Always the recipes have some story and show what cooking was like when they used things like bacon grease to cook with. No doubt some of these recipes are heart stoppers but a fun book with varying types of things for campers and home cooks which have to be tried. Recipes range from simple to complex and are ...

The Grasshopper Trap 9 reviews Patrick F. McManus
Holt Paperbacks, 1986
A Delight! A book filled with humorous stories, this compilation of experiences was a treat to read! The Grasshopper Trap is only the second book I've read by Patrick McManus but now I want to track down all of his stories. McManus writes humor without the obscene, offensive language that seems so common everywhere these days. It's a refreshing, fun read with stories that entertain as well as remind ...

any patrick mcmanus book As a middle school reading teacher, with 35 years of experience, I can tell you that this is the one author I recommed for reluctant readers, especially boys. I discovered this author when our second son decided he didn't like to read. Well, he didn't read much but he loved Outdoor Life and the books by Mr. McManus.
I would encourage parents and teachers to read these books and find the ...

The Deer on a Bicycle: Excursions into the Writing of Humor 7 reviews Patrick F. McManus
Eastern Washington University Press, 2000
A Humor Tool For those of us who write and want to inject a bit of humor in our writing, Patrick McManus has given us an invaluable tool with this book. It's not only instructive and reflective on what makes humor humorous, it's also a funny book in itself. It probably helps that I love to read McManus's wild stories and find them hilarious. But he's a good enough story teller that anyone will find him a ...

Into the Twilight, Endlessly Grousing 12 reviews Patrick F. McManus
Simon & Schuster, 1998
McManus is Mc FUN is As a long time reader of Mr. McManus, my first run-in with this hilarious author was back in the days when I'd steal my dad's Outdoor Life and Field and Stream magazines to sneak away and pour over Mr. McManus' columns. I'm all grown up now, and don't have to steal my dad's magazines. I'm much sneakier now. I buy the books on the pretext that I'm getting them for my husband, then I read them ...

A compilation of three books This book is a compilation of three other McManus books: "A Fine and Pleasant Misery," "Never Sniff a Gift Fish," and "They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?" It is not the same volume as the two-cassette release by the same name. The cassette edition by this name is a compilation of only a few Pat stories. Dedicated McManus readers may already have the three volumes contained in this book. It is, ...

How I Got This Way 5 reviews Patrick F. McManus
Holt Paperbacks, 1995
Best of his lot No matter if you are the outdoors type or not this book is funny. Out of all all his books this one is best since he tells of the characters of his youth, plus a little embellishments. Also makes fun of himself most of the time which he is supremely talented at. WOuld also recomend the audio version which gives a touch of humorous sound to the funny words.
