Microsoft Windows Home Server Unleashed9 reviews
Paul McFedries

Sams, 2007

Excellent book for knowledgeable "home server" reader
This book is for people who build home server from a regular pc. It assumes you have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected, and not headless (like HP MediaSmart Server). It reveals technical material in very detail. In addition, this book will teach you many ways to enhance its functionality. The author is extremely knowledgeable and a very good writer.

iPhone 3G Portable Genius7 reviews
Paul McFedries, David Pabian

Wiley, 2008

A great look into the iPhone 3G.
I consider myself pretty tech suave and have been watching the iPhone 3g from when it just started as a rumor until I had one of my own. Being one to keep an eye on the cellphone market, I believe that the iPhone 3G blows away all other hand-helds available right now. The reason the iPhone 3G (and the original iPhone) is so ahead of the competition is because of the Cocoa Mobile developing ...

Useful book
This book is very useful for a beginner in Access. Not very difficult to go through, however, seems to lack examples. Nevertheless, the book is worth the purchase for someone willing to learn querying, reporting and forms.

GREAT FOR A QUICK REFERENCE FOR VISTA-GREAT INFO WHEN YOU NEED IT!
This was the very first Vista book I purchased last March, 2007 when Vista first came out. This book got me up and running from the move from XP to Vista very quickly. The topics that this wonderful writer wrote are I believe the most important Vista items so you can quickly get up and running with Vista. This is a very easy to understand book which I highly suggest for someone that is moving ...

Paul McFedries

Que, 2008

A good choice for anyone!
Really good book so far! I didn't know anything about motherboards, and now I feel more better. The reason this book is good is because it's nice to read even if you don't make a PC. But the proccessors are where it got blurry with numbers for me.

PivotTables for skill Excel users
I think this book is great and helped me a lot to master both PivotTables and PivotCharts. Before this book, I knew Excel very well and only the Pivot features were unkown to me. I like this book because it does not go over basic feature of Excel. The author assumes that you already know Excel very well. If you do not feel very confortable with Excel, do not buy this book. I am pretty ...

Microsoft Windows Vista Visual Quick Tips2 reviews
Paul McFedries

Visual, 2006

It is Visual and Quick But...
I also found this book of limited usefulness. This is not an introduction to Vista but a tip sheet for those familiar with the program. The format and the graphics are too small for these old eyes. Some of the tips, especially the ones for the internet are also applicable to Windows XP. The view is not expansive here. It's a limited vista.

The Unofficial Guide to Microsoft Office 2007 (Unofficial Guides)3 reviews
Paul McFedries

Wiley, 2006

Great book to learn the quick things, and the not so obvious
I consider myself a power user, and I still learned things about Office 2007 by browsing through this book. I bought it for my wife to learn the new features in Office 2007 and I ended up keeping it for myself! It is a good reference (you can quickly thumb through to find things), and a good exploration tool. I found myself time and again saying "I didn't know you could do that". I am sure ...

Pretty satisfied
I came to this book about two years ago after about a year of VBA programming in Excel. At the time I was mostly hoping to learn how to automate Outlook and Word from Excel. Although I enjoyed the book and found it to be fairly straightforward reading, I didn't walk away feeling I had picked up the skills to succeed with the automation tasks I was hoping to work on. In coming back to the ...

Formulas and Functions with Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (Business Solutions)1 review
Paul McFedries

Que, 2007

Good Review of Formulas and Functions
This book does a nice job on reviewing formulas and functions. It covers a lot of functions that other books gloss over or don't mention such as arrays, rounding, date/time functions etc.It spends a lot of time on logic and lookup functions. Best of all, it uses good business examples that help explain how to use the function. My big gripe with the book is that at times it skips details and just ...
