The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds16 reviews
Paul Zindel

HarperTeen, 2005

Some background on Gamma Rays
The author of Gamma Rays (Paul Zindel) was my science and chemistry teacher on Staten Island (in the 60's). He was a hilarious teacher and would set off experiments, run out of the classroom and lock us in, and there we would be all alone, thinking the classroom was going to explode. He was also in charge of our high school's annual science fair. The winner of our science fair for 3 years' ...

The Pigman and Me (Bantam Starfire Books)14 reviews

Starfire, 1993

nonfiction for fiction lovers
My 12 year old daughter loves Harry Potter and Sammy Keyes. She moaned when I insisted that she read a biography this summer. Lucky for her, The Pigman and Me was with the biographies in the "young adult" section of our library. It was not what I'd had in mind, but she absolutely loved it.

Raw and Real
I read this book when I was 12 and I read it at least once a year since then... Each time I read it I remember what it was like to be an akward teen going through the angst of my senior year. I've had friends like Liz and Sean and I was a Maggie once myself...

The Pigman340 reviews

A touching if not altogether happy relationship.
A few years ago my little sisters kept going on and on about this book, which they were reading for some English class or another. The book must have been introduced into the high school curriculum after my time. Finally, last week, whilst going through one sister's room, we stumbled upon her old copy ad I thought "hey, my sisters loved this book. Why not give it a try?" And since I don't like ...

Hyperion Book CH, 2005

Great book
Interesting plot and riveting writing style. A great quick read for all ages. I've read this book at least three times now. There is a great mix of dialogue, combat, and humor to keep things interesting. Plus, if you liked this story check out Paul Zindel's other books (Reef of Death, Raptor, Rats, the Doom Stone, etc.), they are all quite good.

Suspense and Intrigue - Good Historical Fiction for Boys
In 5th grade, my son was required to complete a project based on historical fiction. He didn't like any of the hundred or so options presented by the teacher. When he and I started to search for a title, I was surprised to find that so many of the historical fiction works have female protagonists! I wanted to find something that he would enjoy. The Gadget has a great deal of suspense and a ...

The Pigman's Legacy20 reviews
Paul Zindel

HarperTeen, 2005

outstanding
This book was so good that i could never put it down. I read this book for a test in school and i got every question right! Paul Zidel is a great author and one of my favorites. This story basically ends what the first Pigman story didnt. It can teach children lots of important morals in life by John and Lorraines experiances. The way that this story is written is almost like watching a movie in ...

"The Scream Museum" starts with someone already murdered which is the biggest mystery in the book. P.C. Hawke and his partner Mackenzie try to uncover clues in hopes to find out who the murderer is. They ask most of the characters where they were st the time of the murder and in time, they soon believe they have their man just like on an episode of Law and Order or CSI...but P.C. is mistaken. ...

Reef of Death22 reviews
Paul Zindel

Hyperion, 1999

review for reef of death
I recommend this book to anyone who likes horror and action. An example of horror is when the sea creature has killed Arnhen and is now ripping him to shreds. "It snapped at them as the girl saw Arnhem's torso float up to the surface, saw the white flash of spine and the circle of shredded, raw flesh." An example of action would be when Dr.Ecenbarger put a guard in the torture chair. A crab was ...

Hyperion Book CH, 2002

My personal review of "The square Root of Murder."
I thought the book the book was great! I like the way PC and Mackenzie solved the murder. I also liked the way they got the clues and figured out who murdered Professor Dunaway. I like mysteries because they keep you wondering what will happen next and I like to try and solve the mystery myself.

Rats34 reviews

Hyperion Book CH, 2000

The awsome book review of "Rats"
I just finished a book called Rats. By Paul Zindel. It was a great book to tell you the truth. The only thing is, is that this book is pretty gory and violent with lots of blood etc. But I was impressed the way the author of this book described how the rats looked and acted toward characters in the book. I mean he would explain every detail from head to toe, of what they looked like, what the ...

Dark teenage crushes
I Never Loved Your Mind follows Dewey who has just dropped out of high school. His first week at work he notices Yvette, who has a nice body, is a vegetarian, and steals things. Throughout the rest of the book he chases her. She seems at times to be falling in love but most of the time seems to dislike him very much because he eats meat and because of all the lifestyle and viewpoint ...

Lost and Found4 reviews

Forge Books, 2000

Dear Author: How and Why do your stories grow?
Do you know a teen who would like to be a writer? Or do you have ambitions to write? I highly recommend this book for both groups, as well as for young adults who just love short story collections. The first story about a high school fencer, by Jerry Lubar, was my favorite. It appeals to that part in all of us that loves to root for the underdog, and see him come out on top. It's also ...

Confessions of a Teenage Baboon6 reviews
Paul Zindel

Starfire, 1984

They don't make books like this any more
If you read my other two book reviews, you'll notice that I am a fan of Paul Zindel's writing. And after reading The Pigman and The Pigman's Legacy, I wanted to get my hands on anything the man's written. I picked up Confessions Of A Teenage Baboon one day, and I haven't put it down since. Basically the book revolves around fifteen-year-old Chris Boyd and his struggles with his dysfunctional ...
