The Renovare Spiritual Formation Bible (Protestant Edition)18 reviews
Renovare, Richard J. Foster, ...

Harper San Francisco, 2006

What a pleaure
Having this provides one with a fine translation and solid opportunity for interpretation and application. I was leary about the last part, since often that can be sappy. Not so here. Selecting a Bible is hard. I have decided that for me, a hard bound book is best and worth any extra cost. Get one like this and add tabs. It is one big book. Shortcoming: No index. But with so much ...

Nemesis: The True Story of Aristotle Onassis, Jackie O, and the Love Triangle That Brought Down the Kennedys34 reviews
Peter Evans

Harper Paperbacks, 2005

Whoa!
What a fascinating, very well written book! It seemed every page had a juicy morsel or two and really opened my eyes into what was really going on during the last months of John Kennedy's life and why Jackie married Aristotle Onassis. As a teenager, I was shocked she'd married someone who obviously wasn't a friend of the United States. But Peter Evans portrays Onassis as someone so fascinating, ...

Election 2004: How Bush Won and What You Can Expect in the Future20 reviews
Evan Thomas, Eleanor Clift, ...

PublicAffairs, 2005

Bush and GOP stole this election just like they did the last and look where our country's heading?
Down the toilet. But don't worry. We got Howard Dean who ain't afraid to come to my state and others and help bring in real democracy to America rather than put up with Bush/Limbaughian rant of bringing fake democracy to Iraq while stealing elections here at home and doing everything they can to turn America into a corporate fascism.

Color Atlas Of Veterinary Anatomy: Volume 3, The Dog And Cat (Color Atlas of Veterinary Anatomy)12 reviews
Stanley H. Done, Peter C. Goody, ...

Mosby, 1996

Huge help for first-year anatomy lab
I wish I'd bought this book before I started vet school! It's a huge help when you're doing your first in-depth dog dissection, because you can get an idea of what things are *supposed* to look like before you start accidentally cutting them up. Beats the heck out of Little Miller's and its b&w line drawings.

Captain America: Red, White & Blue4 reviews
Paul Dini, Bruce Jones, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

The Re-imaging of Cap for a New Generation
This book made me fall in love with comics all over again after about a 15 year absence (the release of the horrible G.I. Joe #50). If Marvel put out a hardcover book like this 'bout Cap every year I would buy it the day it was released. I love its "catalogue" feel. Like a Cap sampler. There's probably 2 chapters I could live without. The rest are pure joy. I also highly recommend Captain ...

Embedded Autonomy3 reviews
Peter B. Evans

Princeton University Press, 1995

Outstanding book
An excellent comparative study of efforts by developmental states in India, Brazil, and South Korea to break out of preordained "comparative advantage" and develop modern high-tech sectors for their respective economies. Based on extensive field research in all three countries and supplemented by thorough use of archival evidence.

The Fantasy Figure Artist's Reference File with CD-ROM: Hundreds of Real-life Photographs Depicting Extreme ...7 reviews
Peter Evans

Barron's Educational Series, 2006

A Clean Start for an aspiring artist
The Fantasy Figure Artist's Reference File is a great book for anyone to have in their library for reference. What I enjoy most about it is the fact that the models are clothed, so that the book can be enjoyed by all ages of artists and can be shared with anyone. However, the lesson in anatomy are still very useful in the book. The models are shown in spandex for classic poses, then are shown in ...

Bringing the State Back In

Cambridge University Press, 1985

Until recently, dominant theoretical paradigms in the comparative social sciences did not highlight states as organizational structures or as potentially autonomous actors. Indeed, the term 'state' was rarely used. Current work, however, increasingly views the state as an agent which, although influenced by the society that surrounds it, also shapes social and political processes. The contributors to this volume, which includes some of the best ...

Double-Edged Diplomacy: International Bargaining and Domestic Politics (Studies in International Political ...

University of California Press, 1993

This original look at the dynamics of international relations untangles the vigorous interaction of domestic and international politics on subjects as diverse as nuclear disarmament, human rights, and trade. An eminent group of political scientists demonstrates how international bargaining that reflects domestic political agendas can be undone when it ignores the influence of domestic constituencies. The eleven studies in Double-Edged Diplomacy ...

Walker Evans & Company1 review
Peter Galassi, Glenn Lowry, ...

The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2002

Photo Fine Art
Peter Galassi focuses on Evans as one of the great photographers of the twentieth century who also had a huge influence on many American photographers (and some contemporary graphic artists) and the ten visual chapters in this beautiful book provide a convincing case. Photography as an art form has had a hard time proving it. Unlike fine art paintings, which exist as an entity, photography ...

Genetic Counselling: A Psychological Approach
Christine Evans

Cambridge University Press, 2006

The role of a genetic counsellor is to mediate between the rapid advances in molecular medicine and an individual's ability to understand and manage the risks of their inheritance. Counsellors therefore need to be fully in command of the psychological impact of their communications. Written by a psychiatrist who later became a psychotherapist, this manual is essential reading for counsellors of all disciplines. It examines the psychological ...

Play Guitar With...David Gilmour1 review
Music Sales Corporation

Wise Publications, 1999

Does not do justice to songs Gilmour is known for
Frankly, i was excited to see that there was a book out in publication in David's style. I saw it in a guitar store and was disappointed with the list of songs that you can learn to play. I was hoping that there would be dogs, echoes, pigs on the wing II, wish you were here, shine on, high hopes, Time, Is there anybody out there etc. But the only good song in this book for playing with the ...

Ari: The Life and Times of Aristotle Socrates Onassis1 review
Peter Evans

Summit Books, 1986

One of Many Versions of the Life and Times of Aristotle Onassis
After having read the biography of Maria Callas, I felt compelled to find out more about the love of her life, Ari Onassis. Although he was very intelligent, his drive was what lead him to succeed and to make choices that left him, in the end, very unhappy. The writer of this book was hand picked by Onassis even though Ari already had a biography that he had previously endorsed. The book was ...

Livable Cities?: Urban Struggles for Livelihood and Sustainability

University of California Press, 2002

The sprawling cities of the developing world are vibrant hubs of economic growth, but they are also increasingly ecologically unsustainable and, for ordinary citizens, increasingly unlivable. Pollution is rising, affordable housing is decreasing, and green space is shrinking. Since three-quarters of those joining the world's population during the next century will live in Third World cities, making these urban areas more livable is one of the ...
