Chosen by God 84 reviews R. C. Sproul
Tyndale House Publishers, 1994
Logical Progressions Should Not Be Ignored I have just completed my reading of reading R.C. Sproul's Chosen By God. Before I get into specifics, I would like to say up front that I absolutely loved this book.
From the front cover, it's not difficult to decipher what this book is about. It's about predestination. Although the tagline may be a bit cheesy, "Know God's perfect plan for His glory and His children"; I think it might carry ...

What is Reformed Theology?: Understanding the Basics 21 reviews R. C. Sproul
Baker Books, 2005
One of R.C. Sproul's best What is Reformed Theology is one of R.C. Sproul's best books. It is not written for unbelievers, recent converts, or those who have not read much of the Bible. If you believe the gospel and have read most of the New Testament and some of the Old Testament, you are ready to read What is Reformed Theology. By that time, you will have read some of the many verses in Scripture that are the basis ...

The Holiness of God 59 reviews R. C. Sproul
Tyndale House Publishers, 2000
This is flat out good stuff... I told someone recently that I was reading The Holiness of God by Sproul and they looked at me like I was an alien. They responded with surprise that I had not read it and went on to rave about the book. Sometimes books get a bit too much pub and then don't live up to the hype; however, this book is not one of them. The Holiness of God is classic Sproul and it is a much needed message for the ...

The Reformation Study Bible: English Standard Version 61 reviews Published by Ligonier Ministries General Editor-R. C. Sproul
P & R Publishing, 2005
Most informative bible information This bible has by far the most interesting, informative, and accurate commentary notes of any bible I have ever owned. It gives an excellent perspective of the text from a reformed viewpoint. I highly recommend it. If there would be any negative comments, it would be that the page paper is a little thin for my preference. But, the content far outweighs that negative.

The Lightlings 3 reviews R. C. Sproul
Ligonier Ministries, 2006
Great for Snuggle-time Reading Here we have two of my favorites rolled into one--stories about Christmas, and stories for children. R.C. Sproul--pastor, teacher, founder of Ligonier Ministries, and radio/tv personality from Renewing Your Mind--has penned a pleasant little allegory that speaks to children. He teams up with artist Justin Gerard to present this book for children dealing with fear of the dark.
I'll start with ...

The Prince's Poison Cup R. C. Sproul
Reformation Trust Publishing, 2008
With The Prince's Poison Cup, Dr. R. C. Sproul continues his series of books designed to present deep biblical truths to children on their own level. In this work, he focuses on the atonement to show that Jesus had to endure the curse of sin in order to redeem His people from their spiritual death. When Ella gets sick and has to take yucky medicine, she wonders why something that will help her get well has to taste so bad. When she puts the ...

Knowing Scripture 23 reviews R. C. Sproul
InterVarsity Press, 1977
Good book on the Basics of Scripture and Hermeneutics If you're a pastor or seminary student who needs a good but basic book on Scripture and hermeneutics then this book is a great place to start. R. C. Sproul Sr. does a good job telling his readers the nature of Scripture and how to interpret it. The reason why Sproul insists that all Christians must have a good understanding of Scripture is because "No Christian can avoid theology. Every Christian ...

Christ in Christmas: A Family Advent Celebration 2 reviews James Dobson, Charles Swindoll, ...
NavPress Publishing Group, 1989
Using this for 15+ years I bought this book when my oldest child was about 4 years old. I had seen children all around me concentrate on "gimmee" and wanted a different emphasis for my children. Advent begins the fourth Sunday before Christmas. This book can be used in 2 ways: Either light a candle and read only the 4 Sundays before Christmas and Christmas Eve, or light a candle and read each night. The first week ...

Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus: Experiencing the Peace and Promise of Christmas 1 review Nancy Guthrie
Crossway Books, 2008
Christmas Essays from Trusted Authors Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus, is a collection of short essays on Christmas topics from writers that Nancy Guthrie respects--"essays that reflect a high view of Scripture; and that put the incarnation in the context of God's unfolding plan of redemption."
Included are pieces from the sermons, essays or books of both historical and contemporary Christians. I've decided that listing the ...

Last Days according to Jesus, The 49 reviews R. C. Sproul
Baker Books, 2000
A must reading On this book Dr Sproul, using its excellent teaching style, explains what Jesus was teaching in its famous speech in Mathew 24. For those who are interested in biblical eschatology, this reading is a must. It not only presents the preterits view, but also mentions others point of view to help the reader to have a macro view of the different positions held about the last time events as found in ...

The Mystery of the Holy Spirit 4 reviews R. C. Sproul
Tyndale House Publishers, 1994
Ignorance dismissed... I read this book because I felt totally ignorant of the Holy Spirit. I know of the Holy Spirit's power and influence in today's world, but I couldn't say I understood it. I have read chapters on it from Systematic Theology books by Erickson and Grudem, but those books hardly touched on the subject. They both left so many questions unanswered. So here comes this little book, barely less than 200 ...

Reason to Believe: A Response to Common Objections to Christianity 5 reviews R. C. Sproul
Zondervan, 1982
Colloquial Apologetics Sproul's accomplishes two things with this book. He manages to instruct Christians into the dilemmas of their faith while at the same time providing a way for them to be able to refute the objections skeptics pose to their religion. All of this is done in fairly colloquial language which augments the validity and credibility of the book: Christians have good answers for the tough questions and ...

The Consequences of Ideas: Understanding the Concepts that Shaped Our World 24 reviews R. C. Sproul
Crossway Books, 2000
Finally something that makes sense I have tired to make sense of this subject several times. My eyes usual cross about the time the author begins talking about reality and non-reality. THIS BOOK makes sense of all of that. If you are like me, you know you should have a working knowledge of philosophy for your job (pastoring a church in my case, but the idea of hitting all those books make you gag. This is the one to read to ...

P & R Publishing, 2000
Good solid read for younger children A young boy asks a very difficult question of a king - where do shadows come from? As the king explores the answer, he learns that shadows come from the existence of light and then he learns about a Great King who has no shadow since He Himself is the Light - this Great King is God Himself and this fun little story is a great and easy read for young elementary-aged students. I would think that ...

The Truth In a day and age in which the Cross has been down played entirely or simply used as a band aid to patch every want and need imaginable, R. C. Sproul has written a timely and concise book dealing with the subject of the Atonement. This book is rich in theology while at the same time it remains easy to understand. Dr. Sproul tells us why he chose this time period to write this book when he says ...

Five Things Every Christian Needs to Grow, Revised & Expanded 3 reviews R. C. Sproul
Reformation Trust Publishing, 2008
Introductory Wisdom for the Christian Life 5 Things Every Christian Needs to Grow is a book about Christians and farming. R.C. Sproul suggests five things that every Christian needs to grow--barley, wheat, corn... OK, I'm just kidding. But don't you think the strangely ambiguous title could fit such a book? In reality, 5 Things Every Christian Needs to Grow is a reprint of a small book published in 2002 by Thomas Nelson. Revised, expanded ...
